Alabama has had issues that they unfortunately can't get under control. Crappy welds on doors leading to leaks and rust, my brand new Ridgeline has stickers upside down, extra poverty covers sitting on the seat, extra door bolt wedged on the seat, leaky cabs, all of which are from sloppy assembly. The Japanese built Acuras were bullet proof and even the some of the domestic CRV's were ok but in my family there were lots of Honda and Acuras over 20 or so and all the Japanese ones were trouble free but some time after 2014, something changed so bullet proof reliability we were accustomed to was no longer a layup.

DEALER PREP.. I guess no prep is now the new
Honda market adjustment..

2020 PP EXL. I'm one of those lucky ones with the light load knocking. Dealership doesn't "hear" it. This will be the last Honda I buy as I've had no luck with the Honda Myth of Longevity. 2008 Civic engine blew out at 96000 miles, 4000 under the Honda provided Extended Engine Warranty and cost me nothing. I traded it for a 2018 CRV. A year later I get another extended engine warranty from Honda. Immediately traded for the PP. Now this. I almost wish the engine would blow and I'd have it towed to the recycle yard and start over, almost Anything But Honda. If that happened, I'd be able to get rid of the rock-hard seats. ABH.

Quality control at Honda is " Nonexistent". American workers take "No" pride nor responsibility in their "work" (??)

Alabama's a Right to Work state too. Being non-union, employees can be terminated unlike union shops. That being said my 2023 PP is tight. No squeaks, rattles and panels fit really well. Time will tell. I have two more years on the bumper to bumper warranty. I read a post by a retired 30 yr Honda employee. He loved working the line and was proud of the products coming out of the plant. He did real well with the 401 K and felt well treated the entire time. My 1985 made in Japan Toyota Hilux ate 2.5 qts of oil every 3K. Toyota deemed it within specs. After returning from a fairly lightweight Baja run I developed a clunk in the front end, the dash slide levers became inoperative due to loose cables behind the dash and the tailgate rusted all in the first year. Toyota did fix the rust on the tailgate but stated that the dash heater controls were the result of owner abuse. I traded it in on a Chevy 3500 and kept that for 100K. The only issue I had was a loose exhaust after a really extensive offroad Baja run where I traveled on a 65 mile cross wash road to the observatory near Camalu after hurricane Daisy had dumped 8" of rain on the mt's and road.

Seems like these items all should have been resolved by the selling dealership's new vehicle delivery folks.. I guess this has become the new "market adjustment" a number of Honda dealers provided during the covid period....

i own a passport 2019.. bought a 2024 gx550 instead of a second passport. (more money.. some new model issues.. TOYOTA/Lexus dealers facing parts shortages to fix the new gx and land cruisers. break squeal.. hood flutter.. and now some of the OT versions are being discussed as having a shudder...) Toyots is not ignoring these issues. including parts availability. thE ENGINE issue did not have any impact on the gx550.. the issue limited to the LX and some toyota models. YOYOTA Corporate answer.. replace 120,000 engines.. whether the vehicle is having the problem or not....)

This is classic Honda and a reminder why I don’t plan to return (as nice as their cars are). They will play pretend and drag their feet until consumers give the fuck up, sell their cars, and it goes to the next owners who will take them a while to notice, and just keep doing that until the end.

I’ve been buying Hondas since 1997, I know their game and its gotten far worse in the last 15 years.
That is beginning to ring true. Still waiting for a recall fuel pump for a year. CS says they are scarce. And we must continue to wait for the notice. Either I await failure, inconvenience, and a tow or experience nothing. So much for reliability.
That said the choice of language you use is most questionable.

Some dealer are better than others. If the body plugs aren't installed and the pre delivery inspection says they were, it probably means they just checked off boxes and did little. This dealer was actually pretty good, the tires were at the right pressure (I believe they overinflate them for shipping). I only discovered the extra door screw and extra poverty cover when installing seat covers.

Best of luck with the 550. I'm a little wary of early production runs for even Toyota. I purchased 4 RAVs between 21 and 23, first Toyotas ever. They're not new anymore and no issues although there were lots of teething problems with earlier years of the new generation RAV that Toyota dealt with. This is where I think Toyota makes a difference.

I know a traveling wound care nurse who had numerous issues with his 2022 Rav4 hybrid to the point where he traded it in on a Tesla. He had to have it towed in with a no start issue and some rattles that the dealer couldn't "hear". It happens. Now he's ready to trade in the Tesla for a Lexus hybrid. Who knows?

This is why cars have warranty but I still prefer not needing to use it at all.

The wife loves her CRV Hybrid. You might suggest he look at one of them.

Not sure. I have seen people posting videos on here of their engine making knocking noises at around 1100-1500rpm under load. I think it would be impossible for Honda to have completely separate V6 engines for Passports. Mind you this issue might be widespread but the percentage is very low so it’s unlikely your engine is affected.
From my battle with knocking engine I've listen at least 6 different Passports and 2 Pilots 2 Ridgelines - they all had knocking noise just with different intensity. I did a lot to keep it before trade it for a 4Runner )) as honda tech said - "it is impossible to manufacture strate crankshaft" 🙃

here is my Passport on sale 😭 fook honda https://www.carmax.com/car/26501261

I've had 2 Ridgelines and a Passport and as mentioned they all make the noise with different intensity from the inside. If you put a camera under the engine and lightly load the engine in gear, they are all very similar in noise. Curious if this noise is a symptom of the engines that ended up failing. My guess is it's not because even if Honda isn't being honest to keep warranty costs down there would have been a lot of engine failures by now.

On forums I read about a bearing failure at 150k with all oil changes done as per the Maintenance Minder but not part of the recall population. Question, is this a sufficient life expectancy for an engine? My guess is probably, but not for a Honda or at least expectations of a Honda V6.

They all make some sounds but some is louder.
This is what mine sounds like:

Yep, they all making this noise but with the noise they make scuff marks on main bearings (that where this noise coming from). Before trading my Passport I made honda to perform repairs. Unfortunately that repair was good for 2k miles when knocking returns. My mechanic suggest to use 5W-30 if I want that engine to last more that warranty.

Thanks for holding that door 👍

Wow. That is wild. Mine seems to be making that noise brand new and it never got louder or quieter only happening at very specific conditions.
I also redline almost once a day since I paid for the whole engine so I will use the whole engine. I also follow MM for oil changes and so far the engine seems to be remaining the same.

Wow! If I had this much work done on my car, I will get rid of it as soon as I can too.
