I have no proof to back this up, but supposedly Honda's latest iteration of VCM (VCM-3? or 4?) on the 2016+ J35Y6 and the 2023+ J35Y8 doesn't seem to be causing long-term problems. Lots of discussions about this on the Piloteers forum.

That said, I still put an S-VCM device on my '21 Pilot, but haven't installed it on my wife's Passport.
Not trying to hijack the thread, I love the new Passport and thinking seriously about getting one, but would be happier if it didn’t have VCM.
So, the way these defeat devices work is by tricking the coolant temp sensor to read lower temp value, something like below 167F. What happens when the engine is truly overheating, but the coolant sensor is giving the wrong reading? Also does engine runs a bit richer since the sensor never reads operating temps?

I think you will find these two threads helpful for your questions. 👇

Does anyone know if Honda intends on introducing a line of Non Offroad models of the 2026 Passport after the 2026 Trailsport is released in early 2025, I like the upgrades they made to the 2026 Passport, but I have no use for a vehicle that is designed for off road use, and would be happier with a nice Midsize Passport SUV that is designed for a nice ride when traveling and towing a small Popup Trailer.

There will be three trim levels:

RTL (Base, non-Trailsport), Trailsport, and Trailsport Elite.

I haven't read too much into the trims yet (mostly out of being lazy) but the base trim may be "less off road" oriented. It's an interesting choice to go more All In on the off-road crowd, it's nice to see them trying to separate it from the Pilot at least.

I want the bells and whistles but I am guessing the price gap will make it a bit unattractive to my bank account, if the RTL doesn't fit the bill, the Pilot has a pretty wide variety of options.

IMO in year 2 or 3 we will see some normal trims just so Honda can squeak out some extra sales, even though the car manufactures do NOT want to offer them, base trim packs for a mid size SUV is something that will move metal.

Put the skis on the roof rails.
I’ve done that, and still wish there was an option to put them inside when only two are skiing. Sky box is overkill for two skiers, great for three or more, but best is the option.

Not to mention the cost of rails plus the sky box.

also, a 40/20/40 split can force some space between the rear passengers, when WWIII is happening, and forced space is welcomed.

For those who have driven the new Pilot AND current Passport, how different does the drivetrain feel between the current Passport's 9 speed VTEC engine vs the 10 speed DOHC (non-vtec) engine that will eventually go in this new Passport once it arrives in 2025? I'm worried the loss of VTEC will make the new engine a bit less exciting....

That is why I bought a Passport. I would have appreciated the extra space, but did not like the ride of the current Pilot.
