Switching between ACC/CC mode is easy. Can do it while driving or stopped. The trick is, you have to have the Main ACC/CC turned on (so that the LKAS is lit up green on the dash, and if you hit set, it will engage the ACC/CC) BUT you must NOT have ACC/CC engaged. Then press and hold the "set spacing" toggle button on the right side of the d-pad for 2 sec and it will beep at you and switch between ACC and CC modes. If you try this while the ACC/CC mode is engaged it will just take that keypress as you desiring to change your set ACC spacing (in ACC mode; no response I believe in CC mode, never tried it). And obviously nothing happens if you try this while the MAIN is turned off.

In ACC mode, the speedometer setting is blank (between the LKAS and other green indicator) when ACC is not engaged and it shows the set speed with the dashed car outline (car in front of you radar) when engaged. In CC mode, it shows "CC mode" in grey lettering instead of the blank space/set speed with dashed car outline when CC is not engaged and changes it to green lettering when you engage CC and set a speed (but does not show your set speed). IIRC I posted on this before including some screenshots if you need that - search prior posts for ACC/turning on CC mode (can't recall exactly).

So dumb of Honda. Why not show the set speed FOR BOTH MODES and show the dashed (radar) car outline for ACC mode and the "CC mode" lettering for CC mode (duh)? Having a CC mode that doesn't show set speed (when you KNOW the car/dash has the capability to display it) is just lazy on Honda's part. I know, first world problems...
And yes, I now run with CC mode most of the time as the inconsistent ACC is just frustrating for someone line me who learned to drive on the Chicago highways. And yeah, like Louuuu above I actually pay attention while I drive and don't need the robot overlords to tell me when to pass and what spacing to use. It's like the Honda engineers only thought incompetent Methuselahs would be driving their cars the way they have the ACC and the rest of the radar/safety system programmed...
No matter what I do I can't seem to switch from ACC to CC and it's driving me nuts. I have a 2017 Civic hatchback.
I start by pressing Main so the LKAS and ACC light up, followed by pressing and holding the distance adjustment button for 2-5 sec and nothing happens, no reaction at all.
Haven't been able to find any solution.

It has a tendency to falsely detect a collision and automatically slamm on the brakes with little or no warning.
Sure you don't mean Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)? Stupid piece of crap system wish there was a way to permanently disable it.

ACC is kind of herky jerky but not really dangerous IMO.

My mom's CR-V has all this stuff. I thought it was unneeded and excessive. But I drove it to Houston one day and I really liked the ACC. I stay far away from other drivers and I hate when they can't maintain speed. I notice it's usually non-Hondas.

If traffic is kind of light, as soon as it beeps, I know they're slowing down (where I can't even perceive it with my eye yet) and I can change lanes to go around them. If traffic is kind of heavy, it'll keep me at a safe distance and I won't have to deal with slowing down and speeding up to match them.

As for the collision braking, I had someone zip in my lane, right in front of me, and slow down. I caught it in time but if I was sneezing at that exact moment or taking a sip of water or whatever, it could've added a few extra seconds.

For me, at least for that trip, they seemed like emergency systems that were there when needed. Kind of like air bags.
