I wish I could have test drove more Passports before taking one home, but almost everywhere around here is OOS. Hopefully, my defective side mirror is the only problem.

 

Hey tombox, I’ve been an owner of a Passport since Apr 2019 and I joined this site at that time. First off I love our PP. I follow everything I can that’s written here and I’ve seen the lovers and haters along with the complaints. Get your warranty work fixed and enjoy your new vehicle. The vast majority of owners are happy.

 

My wife and I enjoy our new PP because it's a massive upgrade over our 00' Accord. The mirror is more of a minor issue. I'm just glad it's running smooth.

 

Was your car in a wreck or something? I find it hard to imagine that comparing an apples to apples car (same year, same trim) would be that much different.

Well, there is a lot to digest in that post. Hearing about the sound difference, how it sounds less like a space ship and seems to be more quiet. That reminds me of the difference when ANC is disabled.

it sounds counterintuitive that a car would be more quiet with ANC disabled, but at idle and low speeds without the fake enginej noise that comes with ANC the motor is pretty silent.

 

That's quite a list, but I think there's hope. My suggestion would be to approach this in baby steps, find a good dealer shop rep, and tell him, "Look, I know I have a lot of problems here, and I don't expect you to fix them all at once, but let's take a few at a time and get this thing better because frankly I feel like I have a lemon, and I just want it working like other Passports I've driven."

Then I would look at your list and order them from easiest to reproduce, to hardest, because dealers love to say, "Sorry we can't reproducer the problem, and then you end up with wasted time on those." So focus first on the ones they can't deny, and will have to fix.

My order for your list would probably go like this:
1. Memory seats
2. Seat travel distance and adjusting performance
3. AC, they should be able to test how cold it is
4. Proximity key
5. Steering
6. Engine & Transmission
7. Sound

6 & 7 are likely going to be the hardest to reproduce, as it's very possible they simply blame the AT tires, but that's why I'd tackle it last.

You have to wonder what exactly the previous person was trying to accomplish by hacking up the seat. Clearly they had no idea what they were doing. I would doubt the dealership would hack a seat up that bad. I work at a dealership, if something is wrong we fix it with proper factory parts, we don't piece it back together like it's a 1983 Chevy jalopy. I'm wondering what else was messed with unknowingly.

What is the TSB for the A/C? Does the 2019 model use the R-1234Yf refrigerant? I'm on the Acura side and our new models that use that have been having issues as well and we are not aware of any 'fix' as of right now. Honda is certainly aware of it though and has been for awhile now.

The transmission thing is basically a software re-flash. They used to mention in the TSB it would take up to 500 miles to 're-learn shifting patterns' but somebody else claimed it was causing issues so the learning part was canned in favor of shift maps that are already set. Even as a master tech, the software updates are mostly voodoo to us. Honda does not tell us anything other than the updates being fixes for various issues. What exactly is updated, hard to say.

 

What dealer do you work at?

I am STILL...pending on my fuel pump recall and dreading the experience even though
I’ll end up probably taking it to the dealer Steven goes to further away from me.
One day in the next 77,500 miles I’ll take it in! 🤣

 

Unfortunately, IMO it's one of the chances you take with a used car. Sure there is warranty protection but it's a process. Remember, warranty work pays a lower rate so those folks want to do the bare minimum to get you out of there as quick as possible.
