What about MPG? -18-23 on the Honda is pretty bad. Any real world MPGs from a 2025 turbo Outback?
This is what I don't understand.

Toyota got rid of the V6 in the 4Runner for a more fuel efficient and powerful turbo 4 cylinder and offers a hybrid...Toyota is getting roasted for ditching the V6.

Honda keeps the V6 instead of going to more fuel efficient turbo 4 cylinders and hybrids...Honda is getting roasted for the V6's bad fuel economy.

So what are the manufactures supposed to do?

I believe, most of the smaller engines that automotive companies have changed to is the Gov't forced fleet average or pay a heavy penalty and the push for EV's?
I read that Trump ended that mandate of forced EV?
Maybe, just maybe they will again have a selection of bigger engines?

Not only Honda passport kept their V6 3.5L but also Nissan pathfinder did as well V6 3.5L

I much prefer a V6 using regular gas compared to a 4 cyl turbo using premium gas with a lil higher maintenance.

The trade off is regular gas less mileage to better mileage with premium.
I wonder is anyone has done a cost comparison less mileage regular gas to higher mileage premium?

I've driven with a friend in his NA 4-cyl 2022 Outback on a 12 hour roadtrip. It's a comfortable ride in gentle driving and cruising. But the CVT sounds awful when we moved with haste. I acknowledge it for being a good car overall. I don't like the direction of this new Outback (styling, CVT, infotainment), so I'm safe sticking with my 2021 Passport.

Your wrong about Subaru engines: they easily reach 200-300K and their all wheel drive systems go through snow and weather like nothing else. I had a 2011 Legacy that would move through snow to its fenders. I beat on that car at 80 mph on a hour long and more drive back and forth to work every day. That 2..5 moved that car fine. and its an e-cvt, a much different transmission. I dont get people complaining about those transmissions anyway, they work great and the legacy got 30 mpg. The Honda has terrible gas mileage, who know how much gas will cost in 10 years. I gave it too my grand daughter at 180K , she crashed it times, my son pieced it back together and its off and running! It up to 250K and still going. I did no maintenance but brakes and changed oil every 3K. Cant kill those cars. There is a reason Subaru is called the number one most reliable.

CR quality ranking is skewed by infotainment systems. Low scores on infotainment brings down the overall rating. However, most people don't consider a slow or hard to use infotainment system to be a reflection of overall reliability. My cousin lives in the northeast and he's on his 2nd Subaru. He keeps them a long time and loves them even though his first one had the infamous head gasket failure. IMO Subarus are reliable cars but they're just not for me, CVT and weak 4 cylinder engine.

I love Subies. They are everywhere in New England. My wife and I ski. Every other vehicle is a Subie. Every ski area is loaded with them.
A friend of mine has an older Forester. It is his third. He told me that he has had great luck with all 3 as long as he carries an extra quart or two of oil. The Forester is notorious for head gasket leaking oil. He uses at least a quart every month. My mechanic told me that Subaru indicated that the company had fixed the oil leak/head gasket issue but he told me it still happens. He works on them all the time.
I test drove the Ascent. It was great(exceptional ride) but the vehicle has had issues. As much as I really liked it, I decided to stay away until I see 2 or 3 years of stellar performance.
