What % off MSRP are people getting this year?

Does a Passport Trailsport come with a security alarm?

Does it have a DIN or double DIN audio connection? (It's ok if it has neither.)

More important than price is a test drive comparison, of 3 - 5 Passports.

1. Some brake better than others. In a safe area, speed up to 35 mph and brake extra, extra hard.
2. Some are noisier than others. Listen for noise coming from the passenger's foot well and the driver's door glass.
3. Some handle, in emergency maneuvers better than others. In a safe area, speed up to 30 mph and pretend that a dog darted out in front of you and jerk the steering wheel abruptly.

If the dealer doesn't have more than one or two Passports to test drive, don't buy theirs, just test drive what they have and drive to another dealership to test drive theirs. Don't wait for the dealer to find one and have it brought to their lot.

I'm not sure if your paid monthly subscription to HondaLink has a security system. The only time that mine has started "honking" was when I was outside the suv and bent over with the keyfob in my pocket.

Single din vs double din...Too many diagnosis options go thru Honda's infotainment system, to justify an aftermarket head unit, but you can swap the speakers.

Only Passport Trailsports were test driven. Not as many dealers have those.

One of the dealers today confirmed that the security system includes an alarm, which is what I want.

I walked out just shy of $5k under sticker for mine in January.
No issues or quirks with the passive alarm so far...if your used to an active alarm, I doubt you'll ever know it's there unless someone is actually trying to steal it.
As far as DIN sizes, it has a 8" infotainment system. What lies behind the touch screen, i do not know. There is an auxiliary USB A and 3.5mm audio jack connection for the system.

Thank you. Good to know someone is getting a good deal.

So far I have 2 offers. One $1000 off, and only the accessories I want.

The other, starts at $1000 off, but makes me buy about $2500 in dealer added options, then I still have to get the accessories I want, since they aren't in them.

(This is for a family member, not me).

The choices, if I don't take the first deal, seems to be to either expand the color range, which would allow for negotiations with other dealers. Or try for deals in the 2nd choice car.

Spoke with Costco today about the previous bait n switch rip off I got referred to.
They contacted another dealer and here is what I got
Sadly this is the best deal I have yet
Didn't want any added crap - and looking at the Honda website these accessories are overpriced!

"Your Costco price on the Trail Sport is MSRP 44,090 - 350 = 43,740 plus the dealer installed accessories ( all weather mats , trunk tray , door edge and handle guards , wheel locks and tinted windows ) its a 3495 package your lookinf at a total price of 47,235 plus tax and dmv fees"

Can you confirm this? Is it listed on the sticker as a standard item, and not as an additional accessory?

Placed a deposit on one. It wasn't from the dealer from a few days ago, since he doesn't take deposits. He's first come first serve.

A different dealer matched his offer though, and didn't include any dealer added accessories also, for an incoming car in May.

Also, after expanding the color choices and reaching out to more dealers, none could beat the price I was getting before. Which I guess is MSRP + only the accessories I wanted.

The person who I'm buying this for is now open to other colors. Previously it was silver metallic only. Now, sonic gray and black are also options.

Hopefully this will open up options to more dealers. So far, only 2 dealers had a silver metallic one, one on the lot now, and one incoming in May. The one that was incoming in May said that they wouldn't match or beat the offer I got from the one that's on the lot now elsewhere.

YUPPP - just got a reply from them - "after talking w my manager" 🙄

This is the reply

Hello,

The tint is after market. your back windows will be tinted.

As far as the mats, since the trailsport is the only honda that comes with the season floor mats from the factory, after discussing it with my manager, we will discount another $200

Therefor your price is $47,035 plus Tax title license .

Glad you got a discount.

It's dirty that they try to double add it, via the package.

Stock photo - any owners want to comment on the tint??

This is the 3rd dealer I've negotiated with
I swear they are all idiots or crooks or both
No I am in negotiations now
My point is they are trying to charge for
All weather mats and window tint - both are included on the stock trailsport!!
So $3100 for
a tray $123, edge guards and door handle film $170, wheel locks $100,
or $3100 for $400 worth (via their website) of equipment

Yeah, out of the 12 - 15 dealers I've dealt with, this week, only 3-4 didn't try to add on their own packages.

That's why they were the ones I was closest with, in negotiations.

In case anyone's wondering, these were the cars that were test driven last weekend, along with some impressions from the family member that drove them:

Lexus RX 450h - Didn't like sitting in the interior as much, nor driving the hybrid.
Lexus GX 460 - Drive was great. Dealbreaker was that the rear lift gate opened outwards, not upwards.
Lexus RX 350 - Preferred driving this to the 450h, but overall didn't like this body.

Porsche Macan - Wanted to test drive the Macan S, but when we got there, they suddenly said it wasn't ready. Test drove the regular Macan, which was 4 cylinder. Drove nicely, but the car felt a little small.

Mercedes AMG 43 - Liked the interior, but twin turbos is overkill. Wish it drove more like the discontinued GLK 350.

Jeep Cherokee Limited - Good interior and handling. Only minor complaint was that the trunk was a little smaller than the Passport Trailsport.

Honda Passport Trailsport - No complaints about anything, liked both the drive and interior.

Top two were Honda Passport Trailsport, then Cherokee Limited. The others were ruled out after seeing them in person and test driving.

MSRP is now my goal - it's really not even about the $ it's just the principal - they want 3100 for 400 (retail) of accessories!!

If you are a Costco member and your Honda dealer participates in the Costco Auto Buying program, parts and accessories will be 15% off. You have to go to the Costco auto web site to see if your dealer participates and print out a certificate. Dealer 5 miles from me does not participate but one 8 miles in the other direction does.

#41 ·
Doesn't look like the dealer I made a deal with, is part of the program.

Only 1 dealer comes up in the results.

(In 2018, a few dealers I met with said they were part of the program.)

Did anyone try to get Costco pricing on a new car? I did in 2018 (for a different manufacturer). It wasn't as good of a deal as what the dealer sent me via email, so I went with his email initiated deal.

I didn't bother this time, since it wasn't as good last time.

A few years ago I tried the Costco auto buying program at a local Ford dealer. It turned out to be just a "come-on" to get me into the dealership where they went through the usual tactics.

So they're forcing you to take the dealer installed accessories, even through Costco?

Yep, if you have a late model with low miles to trade in and can secure a new vehicle at MSRP you are doing great. My dealer is selling new ones as soon as they arrive and are getting me a red trailsport from another dealer. Thankfully there is no markup over MSRP. They really want my 2020 Touring because it has less than 10k miles and can make a few thousand on it since they can price it however they want without an MSRP sticker hindering them.

#53 ·
When I find MSRP I will buy. Pretty simple. I have a 17 Ridgeline RTL-E w only 31k so in no hurry

So i bought my Trailsport in sonic grey 2 weeks ago. I got it for 44k (I talked them down 3k from their initial sticker price and had them give me $3k more on my trade in since it was another passport and they wanted it) + 2k of the dealer non negotiable add ons.
Dealer add ons included: the tint all windows but windshield (factory windows have slight tint and I had that on my 2019 one but the dealer add on is amazing the seats on 100 degree days don’t burn my legs was a b*tch in the 2019 had to have a towel 8 months of the year) thought it was so stupid at first then when that temp hit and I could sit in my black leather seats I’m thrilled, ceramic coating (interior and exterior), forever key replacements, forever battery replacements and roadside assistance. The trail sports come with all weather Trailsport logo mats but boo didn’t come with a trunk trey at all would have been awesome if it had Trailsport truck mat! I’m now adding touches of orange to my car cause it needed a lil more something different!

The family member took delivery of the Passport Trailsport a few days ago.

One disappointing thing is that because the parts department was closed on Sundays, they couldn't provide any of the accessories. (Mudflaps, cargo net, cargo tray).

They said to make an appointment for another day.

Ended up buying the cargo tray online, will make an appointment to order and install the mudflaps later.

The other disappointing thing is that for the trade-in, they said it was their policy not to value any cars better than "fair". So no good, very good, or excellent. Was aiming for very good.
