I have an '19 with a Yakima Baseline roof rack. Yakima's fitment says to position the front bar a mere 6" behind the top of the windshield. The rear bar is just "32 behind the front bar. It even results in the front bar having a slightly unlevel downward position for the cross bar.

Overall, it results in a very forward and small "footprint" for the roof rack while carrying kayaks. It works but observing other vehicles racks are typically more centered on the roof.

Is there anything about the Passport body / roofline that justifies such a forward roof rack position?

Has anyone else experienced this with Yakima's suggestions for fitment?

I had a similar question and I decided to call Yakima this morning. Their rep told me that as long as my cross bars stay within 30" of each other, the actual location of the cross bars in the roof rack is not that important. I will be carrying two kayaks using Yakima Jaylow mountings. I recommend you call them, they will be able to tell you exactly what to do based in how you're going to use it.
