I had assumed it was wireless, I have a 3yr old pioneer avic 8500 after market car stereo in an other automobile and it is wireless, love that function. So figured if you have Bluetooth and car play that would be automatic a standard so to speak sadly not the case. Will have to search for some kind of dongle that will allow that....... anyone know of one?

Hi everyone, I was reading this thread as I’m looking to get the Wireless CarPlay for my touring Passport. Anyone tried the wireless CarPlay dongle sold on Amazon yet like Carlinkit or Binize yet?

Yeah I have the 2020 PP Elite and it is not wireless CarPlay. Your Siri access and other Apple functions such as phone calls and text messaging are, but not the CarPlay. You need to plug in.

I added an aftermarket radio head to my 2019 Passport Sport that supported wireless Apple CarPlay and I'll say it is a waste. The demands on the iPhone battery drains it quickly. You might as well charge when using Apple CarPlay so the wired USB connection is more practical. Wireless might work better on the Passport models with wireless charging although I'm less than thrilled with the wireless charging on my 2020 Passport Elite.

I just heard back from CPLAY2air.

"Hi! I hope all is well. We're happy to let you know that we are supporting all Honda units from 2016-2020 now! :)
As long as your car has factory-installed* Apple Carplay and a standard USB port, it will now work with our adapter. 👍🏼
You may click the following link to see the list of supported vehicles and aftermarket head units:

CPLAY2air wireless adapter for factory CarPlay
Let me know if you have further questions.
*Apple-Carplay installed from the factory or upgraded through your dealer
Thank you,"

That is great! Thanks for the update. I will order one to test. I’ll make sure to post a note here once I’ve plugged it in!

I use the Carlinkit 2.0 adapter (a little smaller unit that uses usb-c for connection - Carlinkit Wireless CarPlay Store) in my wife's 2017 CRV and love it, so I was very happy to hear that they've added support for the 2019-20 Passport, Pilot, and Oddyssey, so I ordered a 2nd unit for my 20 Passport. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working out of the box with my Passport EXL (though the new unit does work fine in the CRV). I've upgraded to the latest online firmware and still no go. I've reached out to support to see if there is other firmware or a different procedure to get it working with the Passport and I'll report back here if I get it working.

That would be excellent news! The Head unit in 2019+ Passport is running Android 5.0 and has both a wifi radio and bluetooth in addition to carplay support, so it should theoretically be possible with a software update.

I'm still trying to get the Carlinkit 2.0 to work in my 20 Passport EXL. I've been following the instructions posted on the Pilot owners forum but no success so far. Both Carlinkit adaptors I have were upgraded to the 11.10 firmware and both work in my wife's 17 CRV, and have been set to compatible mode per the instructions on the Pilot forum, but I've still not managed to get a working connection on the Passport. I've removed all bluetooth and carplay connections from the Passport, and once plugged in it gets to the enable Carplay screen, but then the device fails to connect and the led stays solid red.

Any word from Honda yet if they really are going to enable this software update on the Passports? Even though I have an EX-L, really surprised that the higher trims with a wireless phone charger required a wire still for Apple CarPlay to work.

I might be wrong
The only 2021 Honda with with wireless Apple CarPlay is the Accord on EX-L and higher trim levels per the Honda website and specs for both the Accord and Passport.

I upgraded my 2019 Sport with a Kenwood head that had wireless Apple CarPlay and never used it because it discharge my iPhone battery at a high rate.

Perphaps wireless charging and wireless Apple CarPlay will someday work together well enough to eliminate the need for the lighting wire.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I have finally got the Carlinkit 2.0 working reliably to provide Wireless Carplay on both my 2020 Passport and my wife's 2017 CR-V. Carplay boots about 10 seconds after starting the car, connects to my iphone 12, and I can leave the phone in my pocket or charge it on the wireless charger while driving. All carplay functions including apple and google maps, phone, and text messaging, etc. work normally. I thought someone might find this information useful.

The Carlinkit has always worked in my wife's CR-V since purchasing it, but I have never been able to get the head unit in the Passport to recognize it and boot properly until now. In order to get it working, I used the CR-V head unit to upgrade the Carlinkit 2.0 to the latest available over the air 2021.03.06 firmware upgrade (by connecting it to the CR-V, allowing it to boot to Carplay, and then connecting to the internal website on the carlinkit at 192.168.50.2 with my phone and following the OTA upgrade instructions on the web page). After successfully upgrading the firmware to 03.06 and testing it on the CR-V, I then used a usb stick and powered hub to manually upgrade to the 2021.04.26 version from here: Index of /U2W/2021-04-26

After uprading to the 04.26 firmware, I plugged the Carlinkit into my Passport Head Unit, started the car and watched it power up, enabled the carplay adapter it recognized, and connected to it via bluetooth from my phone and voila! Wireless Carplay is great! I now have two Carlinkit units, one in the CR-V and one in the Passport, both running 04.26 firmware. My wife never has to remove her iphone from her purse or mine from my pocket, unless we want to charge on our wireless chargers. No more lightning cables and no more wear and tear on the ports on our phones. As the 04.26 firmware seems to be working on both vehicles just fine, I don't intend to upgrade again unless I find a specific problem reported fixed on the macrumors forum for the Carplay adapters: CarPlay adapter to convert to wireless CarPlay?

I would like to revive this forum to say that my CPLAY2AIR works after the 04.26 firmware. I have only had a couple of times when I had to unplug the adapter and then plug it back in. Sound quality is great, no lag in Maps, and all I have to do is get in the Passport with my iPhone, and CarPlay pulls up. It does take between 10-30 seconds to load, but it's way better than having to plug in my phone every time. Hope this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to reply.

Wolfpack, How did you update the firmware to 04.26? did you follow the process per Anthony's post (Thanks Anthony!). The reason I ask is that I don't have a second Honda car... If I can't update the software using my Passport, is there another option?

There was a discussion on this topic a while ago. The conclusion then was that aftermarket gadgets were flaky. But last week, I took the plunge anyway. I got 2021 CarlinKit 2.0 Wireless CarPlay Adapter for Ridgeline 2017 to 2020 Years Factory CarPlay Cars, Convert Wired to Wireless CarPlay, Support iOS 14 . I hooked it up over the weekend and so far it has been working fine. All four days worth of data. The pairing process was simple (took about a min, I think). And now every time I get in the car, it connects. Google maps works fine. The steering wheel button to access Sri works fine. I have not noticed any additional lag. We even paired my wife's phone and it connected seamlessly. It has a USB-A connector so you don't lose wired either (though I haven't measured current to see if you've lost charging speed). Ridgeline 2017.

Most cars with Apple CarPlay require you to actually plug in the phone for it to work, since the phone battery would otherwise be drained (at least that's one argumet I've heard). Given that the Elite has the wireless phone charger, does anyone know if wireless CarPlay is supported? Or is CarPlay supported via USB only (which would significantly limit the usefulness of wireless charging)?
Hello, have you get one adapter to convert the carplay to wireless? does it goes well?
I am considering to have one too, getting tired of plugging in everyday to USB, has anyone upgraded to wireless CarPlay and have suggestions for adapters?
Is there any loss in function with the aftermark adapters?
