Hello All,
Hope everyone is doing well.
A while ago there was a discussion of Honda sending out a survey regarding customer interest in paying to upgrade to wireless Apple CarPlay. There were rumors of Honda possibly upgrading the CarPlay thru an over-the-air update or at the dealership for a fee but I haven’t seen anymore mention of this. Does anyone know if this may happen or did Honda kill the idea??

Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto cannot work in the present 2019-2023 Passport with just a software update, the infotainment system needs to have specific integrated circuit that support the wireless function installed from the factory but Honda did not build it in. You may be aware that present infotainment unit in the Passport has been available since 2016 in the Pilot, Ridgeline and Odyssey (2017) but non of these vehicles have wireless the CarPlay/Android Auto option even in their full luxury loaded and exclusive trims. The 2022 Pilot Back Edition and the 2022 Odyssey Elite that can be configured to cost north of 55K before dealer mark-up do not have wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, if the infotainment unit can do it one should assume that Honda would have activated the wireless function in these vehicles.

Honda has remedied the wireless CarPlay/Android Auto availability in it's new 2022/2023 models like HR-V, CR-V, Accord, Civic and Honda is loudly touting this new connectivity feature. The 2023 Pilot will also get wireless Carplay/Android Auto while the Ridgeline, Passport and Odyssey will have to wait for their redesign in 2024 to gain the function.
