As it’s typically cheaper to get a smaller size winter tire, I’ve looked into going down from the standard 20” size Passport Tire to an 18” which is within acceptable allowances. Has anyone purchased winter tires yet? If so, what did you buy, did you go with 20’s or size down?

Here is a post I did on another thread:
Here is what I will be running on my Passport. These are the 17" OEM winter wheels from my 2015 Honda Pilot, I also ran them on my 2017 Honda Pilot. I have 245 Blizzak winter tires on the rims.

I too run 245/65R17 studded winter tires on my 2018 Ridgeline and will do the same this winter on the Passport...When I did the winter tires on my 18 Ridgeline my tire dealer said to go with the 17" if possible, as there is a much better selection of studdable winter tires in the 17" sizes...

Hi Wayne,

I was wondering how the 17 in winter rims worked out on the passport?

Thanks,
Erik, they worked great. The tires I used were the same outside diameter as my 20’s so my speedometer was right on. The tire pressure sensors also worked as they should.

I ended up getting 245/70R17 Blizzak DMV2. It's +1 in size, so 30.5 vs 29.5. The tire is much quieter than stock and the ride is a bit softer due to bigger sidewall. I highly recommend the tire. That said, my wife's Ford Edge got Blizzak DMV2 245/50R20 which a stock tire size. I bit stiffer sportier ride but traction is amazing. Unless your roads are pretty rough, switching to 18s is not necessary and probably does not make financial sense un
