I haven't noticed any noise from the crossbars, but that could be because I can't hear it over the wind noise from the sunroof.

I don't have Cross Bars and I'm not sure if they can be moved to various locations(?)

But wonder if the front mounting location makes a difference on the wind noise?

Perhaps you could compare locations with those who have no noise(?)

I have OEM crossbars and do not notice any wind noise.....I did notice a lot of noise from the moonroof when open. Maybe some of that came from the crossbars??? I installed the OEM moonroof deflector to lessen the noise when the moonroof was open. Worked great, but it made more noise when the moonroof was closed even though I checked to make sure it was installed corectly. Since 99% of the time I have the moonroof closed, I now have a $120 moonroof deflector up in the garage attic!

That's the beauty of a forum like this, being able to get other peoples opinions and experience!

Your $120 sacrifice is well noted and I thank you...

I have the deflector too, and I suspect it's the cause of the noise, but I do drive around with the sunroof open a lot, and I hate to get rid of it.

I bought Yakima crossbars and they whistled like crazy. I’m not a huge fan of the wind deflector look, so I got creative. I saw a lot of fixes online, including wrapping a cord around the crossbars to mix up the wind.

My fix:
  • the issue for me turned out to be the channel that runs along the bottom of the crossbars themselves. Those channels are used to mount the crossbars to the stadium (right word?) that connects to the roof rails (front to back bars)
  • I just got normal packing tape, the clear stuff, and taped the bottom of the crossbars, over that channel, and the problem immediately went away. (Side note, my crossbars were previously used and that rubber strip that normally sits in the channel and fixes the whistle was missing)
Like others have said, it’s possible there are other causes for the noise, including position of the crossbars. I diagnosed my issue by having a friend stick his head out the sunroof while we drove on a back road, then he put his hand in different places to see what made the whistling go away.

Side note: these have done really in the rain and sand, but there’s a chance you have to replace them. Haven’t gone through a winter yet, we’ll see how that goes.

Best of luck, it’s an annoying problem 👍

My husband and I put on a roof rack with cross bars... does any one else have cross bars that make a loud noise when driving???
I just had OEM Honda PP crossbars added to my Elite's roof rack at a Honda dealership and drove home about 25 miles and did not hear any whistling but I did not open the moon roof. Did you hear whistling without the moon roof open or only with it open?

Steve, perhaps you should send him 20 bucks.
He saved you $120?
Naw, I was not going to get a sunroof deflector, even before his post...
