I am not happy at all at Honda. Was stranded a hour from my home Saturday night in the middle of no where and called Honda assistance at 12:30 Am and they told me that they can get someone out there in 4-6 hours and I have to stay with my car. I told her it’s 40 degrees out here and you get your ass out here and wait in the car for 4-6 hours in this dead SUV. This will be my second battery installed. The first one went at 6000 miles and this one went at 13000 miles. The next time it goes I told them you won’t be hearing from me but my lemon law attorney. I have also been back to them 4 times to fix the lights on my running boards. I’m out 400 dollars for a night at the hotel and a paid tow and a hour long Uber ride. Corporate has been notified and a case has been made. I expect nothing but full payment or attorneys will get involved. I thought I got away from dealing with this garbage from owning several General Motor vehicle. I guess not. I’m pissed!

How old, (months) was each battery before it went bad? Factory batteries, at least in my experience are of a lesser quality then aftermarket. Exide and Johnson Controls are pretty much the two actual manufacturers of automotive batteries in the U.S. with the former being the better of the two.
When my factory batteries in any of my vehicles needs replacement I get a Duralast gold from Auto Zone, (Exide) I've had good luck with them, good warranty, there's one on every corner around me, and the will even test and replace your battery free of charge as long as it dosent require major dissambly to perform.
Best of luck recouping your expenses from Honda, regardless of anything else that really shouldn't happen.

Dang, that sucks G-Man, keep us updated and sorry for your problem........

(BTW: I'm on Battery #3 at 26k miles, went with a Gel, instead of Acid (liquid) this time, so we'll see if it lasts any longer)

A battery is only as good as the alternator. I always check both the battery and alternator output with my test device, Only about $50 - it gives peace of mind. I think both are undersized for the vehicle needs.

I called corporate and they said it was a dead cell in the battery again. Honda assistance is gonna pay for the tow and the Uber to get home. The Dealership gave me 2 free oil changes. Now I have a SUV that I can’t trust. I’ve had it for 15 months and this is the second battery. Have also been back 4 times to have the running board lights repaired. It’s like I’m dealing with GMC all over again. We were on a first name basis at the dealership when I had to bring in my Terrain.

Factory batteries are sub par, rather than having a vehicle you don't trust I would suggest purchasing a quality aftermarket battery. If not then at least a small jump start pack to keep in your car.
I understand you (we) should have to do this but I'm expecting to have to do the same with my 2022 Passport Trailsport. I won't even bother with having the battery warranteed.

Dead cell usually is caused by battery being constantly drained not fully charged causing the plates to start sulfate to a point that the sulfate connects the plates causing a short within the cell.
Excessive draining the battery can be caused by doing short trips and frequent use of start and stop function.
Once the sulfate is built up on the plates, it's not reversible by charging the battery. The battery needs to be replaced.

Is there some commonality to those of you who report these problems with batteries? Do you use idle stop feature often? Lots of accessories usage or aftermarket battery loads?

I may be lucky but my battery is approaching 37k and 3.2 years and no issues at all. I will likely replace due to age shortly to avoid issues. I almsot never use idle stop (maybne a few dozen times a year when I forget to disable it). No major loads added on except a cell booster, dash cam, small powered 8" sub.

I rarely take trips shorter than 12 minutes to anywhere, and do long road trips monthly.

Would sure like to understand what is the common traits of failures for those having them at low miles.
