Hi,
I brought my 2019 Passport EX-L AWD with 55k mi for TSB 23-008 update since car wouldn't restart at intersections multiple times. Dealer did update and fried ECU in the process a month ago. Problem is covered under warranty according to dealer. No parts available to fix a problem until mid March or longer. We are in rental now. What are the options?

Just curious...Does your EX-L have a dash cam or any electrical after market devices?

No permanent OBD2 devices are used in my vehicle. Regular dash cam powered from cigarette lighter should not matter for Idle Stop. Besides at this point it's a preventable cluster with TSB implementation.

I brought those pages to dealer. They didn't need it apparently.
Let's forget about it. What is my success rate after just update? Highway miles, always pushing that frigging button?

The way I remember is pretty simple. The Passport has an icon in the upper left corner of the dash that tells you the start/stop status at each startup cycle. It is virtually impossible to forget to disable the function if you are paying attention to the dash.

Sounds like a tech error. I'm on the Acura side and we have the same bulletin. I've done thousands of software updates, and I only bricked one. Because I wasn't paying attention.

If the software update glitches the laptop will tell you that. Then you can start the re-flash over. But you can NOT turn off the ignition until it's successful. If you do it's game over for the PCM.

Your options are not much. I'm sure the dealer ordered the part on a 'critical' order, which means it will show up ASAP. Until then you wait. We're still dealing with supply chain issues and back orders, although it has improved greatly since last year.

Depending on what state you live in you do have the option of a buy back under the lemon law if the vehicle is not repaired by 30 calendar days. Different states have different rules.

Dimasin, you will increase your chances if you just have ballisticexchris along for all your rides.

Problem in my case wasn't with disabling Idle Stop (it was done religiously), but with not being able to re-start a car after a short stop at the store. You can disable this engineering disaster manually or with device, but all system is so poorly designed that car needed to be jumped several times. And to prevent any misunderstanding - all of this with good new battery, good alternator and starter that was able to crank when good battery is jumped (cables from another vehicle or 100% charged jump pack).

I appreciate your advice! I will have to look into that closely.
Unfortunately our no-restart problems showed up after warranty expired. Lemon law for most cases is applicable within some period of time, but only during warranty period.

I highly recommend a battery maintainer. This is an important device on any vehicle that is driven short distances or sets more than a day. I have been using a tender since the early 90’s and typically get 5-8 years out of my batteries. It’s especially important on modern vehicles loaded with electronics and constant parasitic drains.

Normal parasitic drains run about 50 milliamperes. When I hook up my AmpHound to the Passport it is close to 120 milliamperes. This can result in a no start condition in just a few days of non operation (if the battery is weak or old).

I’m having the SB 23-008 done right now as I type this. I will report back the parasitic drain after when I get home today. Unfortunately I did not check the drain during actual use in start/stop function.

The update is very simple. It disables the function during high drain usage and shuts off high drain components during startup.

Well, it seems that the dealer made a mistake and is going to make it right for you. Really the only option, from my perspective, is take the rental vehicle to the grudge races at your local drag strip or not !! :ROFLMAO:

I'm scheduled for my first "A1" service next week. I'm aware of TSB 23-008 and they said it would be done with my A1 service. I think I'll opt--out of having this TSB performed. I routinely turn off the Auto Stop feature every time I start the Passport.

If I say no to the update at this time, how long do I have if I want it done it the future?

I've never had success re-flashing after a failure, but thats only happened twice... Both on CRVs oddly enough.

I had mine done today and it was seamless. I was told that my dealership is doing the software update to every 2019-2023 Pilot, Ridgeline and Passport that comes in. They are not even looking at VIN verification.

My husband hates that button too! It doesn't bother me but even when I'm driving he flips it off. He said Honda should have implemented that option opposite...meaning if you wish to enable that option, YOU turn it on, otherwise it does not engage. We have a problem with the tires, however at 30,000 miles on the 2019, chunks of rubber coming out the tires. Contacted Honda, they instructed me to contact Continental Tire. I emailed them along with pics indicating the problem. They instructed me to return to my dealer (40 miles away) to concur with my findings which my dealer did. My dealer then reached out to Continental to advise I was correct. Then Continental tells the Honda dealer to return all 4 tires to them for inspection. My dealer asked them what are they supposed to do with my car in the shop, put it up on blocks ? What am I supposed to drive while waiting for Continental 's reply???? I gave up but will NEVER again purchase a Continental Tire!!!!!

Has anyone who had this software update noticed any issues? Does the auto-stop defeat button in the center console still work as before?
