Guilty as charged. I did buy the console organizer that breaks it up into 6 areas, and I already have USB cables in there for any phone that someone might have, several flashlights and a headlamp, microfiber cloths, etc. I have only had the car for half a week, so I will certainly get it filled up in time.
I haven't filled up the "trunk" under the rear floor yet, but I have plans. Right now I only have an umbrella, gas can, and jump starter box, but planning more. I still have a similar mentality from when I was a teenager and everybody had crappy 80's cars that needed to be fixed in parking lots. What I might need to avoid is carrying around enough tools to rebuild the space shuttle..
If it's out of sight that's one thing. It's like having closets at home.
If however one of the two front cup holders is alway full of stuff rendering one holder useless for cups, there is stuff on top of the console storage compartment keeping you from easily getting into the storage compartment and you have to unload the cargo area to put cargo in it THAT is a different story.
In my Passport the only extra things you will see are as follows: In the dash compartment is a 6" Apple certified cable. In the drivers door pockets in the bottom pocket is a stocking hat, and gloves. (Will be removed in a couple of days until fall) In the upper compartment is a surgical towel. Surgical instruments come wrapped in sterilized bundles. Most general instruments these days are disposable. We get lots of really nice hand towel sized 100% cotton towels in the surgical unit where I work two days a week. We love them and never want for nice thick soft towels for all kind of purposes.
My under trunk area has tools, my lithium ion jump pack, a roll of paper towels, a roll of TP, a first aid kit, my locking lugs nut key & my Streamlite charging unit. In the wheel well of the donut spare is a bottle jack, 4 way lug wrench and wrench stand. The right cubby has a fire extinguisher mounted in it and the left cubby and a collapsable dog watering dish and a set of extra leashes. All basically out of sight out of mind.
I think I developed my OCD for a clean vehicle interior after dealing with so many people that were not only in all likelihood hoarders at home, but hoarders in their vehicle as well. It is surprising to see how many people had only a drivers seat available to them in the vehicle. The rest of the space was filled with junk and trash.
I'm not talking about homeless people. They generally do a good job of keeping the passenger compartment cleaned up as it is their living room, bedroom, dining room all in one. I'm talking about people that have enough trash from McDonalds, Burger King, Arby's and Taco Tico to supply a store for a month with bags, cups, napkins, straws, etc. All dirty of course, but that much trash.
