I was looking at a few photos of the hitch bike rack installs and have a couple, questions.
The dealer told me (we’ve all learned they aren’t the most knowledgeable)...that a tow hitch goes,I’m this shiny part I circled in red?

However, I’ve noticed everyone has their hitch underneath?

And I still have this rack from my CRV, would anyone here know if it would fit the passport?

If you purchase the OEM hitch, the kit comes with a new rear cover (in matte finish) that has the notch for the hitch receiver.

If you purchase an aftermarket hitch, the hitch receiver may be situated below the cover? It eliminates the need to replace the cover, but the hitch sits lower and reduces your rear ground clearance. Installation would be very easy, because it is just 6 bolts.

Here is what the OEM trailer hitch looks like installed, you don't lose any ground clearance.

Thanks Wayne!
Very helpful to see what the hitch looks like. Still keeps the great esthetics of our Passport!

Good to know and understand. Thanks!

I also had the OEM hitch installed. As you can see from posted pics it is very well integrated into the body. The one added point I’ll make is if you have the “hands free power liftgate”, standard on Touring and Elite trims, you will also need to purchase a “hitch adapter” since the hitch will sit over the sensor.

Thanks Barry. If I go this route, I will end up having the same guys install the hitch that did my CRV, Rack & Road in Costa Mesa. Got prices from them for the hitch and adapter for my current bike rack.

I am hoping to never go back to my dealer to have anything done to my Passport. I was extremely disappointed in their service department when installing the add ons after purchasing it. And they had by vehicle 3 times to fix the hands free lift gate, it STILL doesn't work. I rarely use the cargo area anyway, so that's not the end of the world. The members of this group know more about my Passport than they do.

Reviving this old thread as I’m researching the tow hitch and bike rack more.

My Honda guy said there is an issue with the bike rack on the back and the parking sensors on the passport and pilot. When you are driving down the road the sensors beep the whole time?

Anyone got an update on this?

Awesome news!

So no driving in D and the alarms freaking out. I have to deal with that every time I park in my tiny garage, and it’s way more than I can handle on a CA freeway!

I didn’t realize I can do that. But to clarify, the sensors only go off when in reverse as David mentioned above?

Hello Heather, I cannot really tell if the hitch on your CRV is a 2" or 1 1/4" receiver. Either way, there are adapters, if needed, that will allow you to use your old rack.

Thank!

The BVG is a 2”. The issue with it is I can’t open the tailgate as when it’s down because there isn’t enough clearance. Plus, I have to lift the bike really high and I’m just 5’ tall. I’ve been calling and emailing all day, there are no bike racks at stores or online until maybe October at this point.

I found a new Thule T1, platform style on offer up that the lady is selling because it was a gift and she never had a need for it. Why can’t someone gift me something like that!

As long as my shop can get a hitch and kit from the dealer in a reasonable timeframe, I’ll get the rack tomorrow. I’ve been trying to sell mine for over a year, it’s as painful of a sell as the OEM wheels.

Buy the Thule T1! it is a very nice and sturdy bike rack (I have Thule T2 XT Pro). It should include an adapter to fit a 2" receiver? Worst case, buy an adapter.

Yeah, I will be picking up the Thule 1, today as long as we can confirm the dealer parts dept., has a hitch in a decent timeframe. The reviews were either good or bad on it, that’s a concern...

I called and emailed every bike shop and rack shop for the last few days, most wont even answer their phones here! I found someone selling two on offer up, one new in a box, the other used once they said... I will confirm it comes with an adapter or get one from the dealer. Thanks again!

Did anyone NOT install the relocated hands free kicker kit?

My OEM has never worked and since I have three button options for it, I didn‘t care that the dealer couldn’t fix it. My Honda shop just called and concerned that if they don’t get the relocation it will possibly freak out. And he won’t know until he puts it all back together.

I am only their 2nd Passport and they certainly haven’t had to deal with this.

Check out this thread from a few months ago.

I posted several pictures of stock handsfree bracket/sensor, and 'relocation' bracket/sensor.

They can unplug the 2 long sensors, cut the stock plastic bracket (which is identical to the bracket supplied with the relocation kit), and reinstall the modified bracket without sensors attached. If you wish to have handsfree later, you can order it at that time; when you receive the kit, simply unplug the stubby sensors from new kit, and install (plug'n play) them into the plastic bracket that installer already modified and installed.
