Did you ever do this? I'm not sure it would fit. I don't want to mess with the SubWoofer that is also next to it.

I don't want to mess with the SubWoofer that is also next to it.I just bought a PP this week and will be putting 17" rims on because I need to travel on long and sometimes rough dirt roads. Modifying the storage area to fit a full height spare is on my list of mods to do. I'm thinking to cut out the plastic around that cargo area so it fits. I'll let people know how that plan goes...
What is brand and model of this rear tire mount? from where? The rotate to side might be better than swing down backwards. How many others do you know of that with the pull of one pin allows you to do this..........

to access the back hatch area, (it goes to either side) ,make it easier to take off the spare and remount the flat, and still leave you with a fully functional trailer hitch to carry something like bicycles or pull a trailer of some sort?
I just threw the idea out there for those that might actually need such things for their life style. Ain't no skin off my nose.
You may be greatly over-thinking this . . .I just realized that my new 18" wheels use Spline lugs for mounting. Does anyone know if those will work with the stock 20" wheel? I doubt they will. That means they won't work with my donut spare tire if I were to need it! I'm carrying an even more useless spare now!. I gave the black wheel lugs (and a locking one) away when I sold my factory tires and wheels. Now I need to get a new set ASAP in case I need them!
And I was thinking the donut was to work with the original tires and my replacements are only about an inch bigger (½" more lift) so even with the Jsport lift kit is should work for short distances. Useless off road I know but at least if I call AAA to put the spare on in town it should work. When I get the lugnuts for it - or am I missing something?
Anyone know where I can get 5 cheap lug nuts that will work with the 2019 Passport spare donut tire?
Yeah, I’ve got a few friends with those fancy run flats...until they run flat and wait hours for a tow truck. Terrible idea!I guess it's better than no spare tire at all. Audi Q7's with 20" wheels come with run flats and no spare tire. The Q7 and SQ7 that come with 21" wheels get regular tires (not run flats) and no spare tire. No idea what you do when you get a flat in a rural area like driving up to skiing in VT on a cold Friday night. Some BMW's must have the same issue. I just saw an X5 with a full size spare in a Yakima roof basket.
We test drove an 2020 Ford Edge ST recently, funny thing was it has no spare tire just an air compressor instead! Another good idea.Yeah, I’ve got a few friends with those fancy run flats...until they run flat and wait hours for a tow truck. Terrible idea!
I guess you are supposed to drive 3 miles, stop, inflate tire, drive 3 miles, stop, inflate tire, repeat until you get to tire store...why not sell a plug kit, tool to take the tire off the rim, balance kit and then you can truly fix the flat on the side of the road... Attn Car Designers- just put the full size spare back into the car - Marketing - advertise your car has a full size spare for safety - you wouldn't want to drive on a donut spare would you? Be safe and have a car with a full size spare...we care about your safety....We test drove an 2020 Ford Edge ST recently, funny thing was it has no spare tire just an air compressor instead! It starts with computer manufacturers removing the CD drive, then the Kensington lock, then USB ports...oh wait, we’re talking about auto manufacturers!I agree, if car makers are doing it to save money, then how about giving the Customer the chance to at buy a full size spare as an accessory...! sheesh..
Thats comforting! I don’t think we've heard from anyone who used the spare.I have to defend the donut spare as being better than no spare at all. I was in NYC on business and got a flat tire after hitting a giant rain-filled pothole. Tire sidewall was destroyed so I put on the donut spare. Started out driving around 60 mph on it but lost patience after half an hour. Drove the next 4 hours at around 75 mph. When I got home I was amazed to see it didn't look worn at all. I recall Car & Driver did an abusive test of donut spare tires and found them to be really durable.
I realize this is months old but did you ever get a response about this? I see in earlier posts on this thread, a few other people said they might try a modification of cargo area- wondering if anyone has info on results or attempt.I will be sure to update you guys this week with what 714 says.
I was able to get it up on a lift, there is something under the tire, maybe a strut, can’t recall exactly, but it can’t be cut and then the full size tire lowered. The only option would be to cut out the cargo area above the spare. But that didn’t work for me as I haul so much crap in my vehicles when traveling for work or fun. So, I‘m at the mercy of the Michelin 24/7 road side service that I will hopefully never have to use! It is the 2nd bad flaw on our vehicles, but not many options to fix it.I realize this is months old but did you ever get a response about this? I can't get the spare tire ( lack of a full size) off my mind. Hadn't given it much thought until recently and now it's bothering the crap of me. I'm not sure I've ever owned a vehicle with a doughnut and honestly I would just accept it if we never went off the pavement... but we do. Not rock crawling or the like, but we like to explore. I can't imagine being in the boonies and have to use the doughnut. I've had roof baskets/boxes in the past but don't want it on the PP- we really don't have the need anymore- and my personal preference is I do not like the rear mounts, swing or fold down.
I'm thinking this spring that raising the floor is the solution for me. Looks like 4 inches would be the target. That sounds like a lot but there is still a ton of room in there. I did a little mockup and think it would still work great for us. It's going to be that or a tire in a bag in the back.
Yeah, it was a lame fail on Honda. As you mentioned, there’s plenty of space if it was all designed just with a bit more thought. Keep me posted if you think of Anything.Appreciate the update and as I expected. I was under vehicle today and didn’t really see a viable option.
