Stereo no sound, only Subwoofer works, Fixed

3636 Views 18 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  PNWGarageDad
I think my radio is dead. It turns on, no sound, but the sub is working. Part of me is glad, so I can upgrade the head unit, however it will drive me crazy if I don't find out why it failed. I did upgrade the door speakers, simple plug and play. So since the sub is working and all of the other speakers are not, I'm thinking the power source for the door speakers is burned up? Just some of my initial thoughts. I don't have to time to trouble shoot today. Some feedback over the next few days would be greatly appreciated.

Fuse?
I just checked the fuse and it was good. Now, everything works. This is so weird! 🤔

Well, it happened again. I will start looking at upgrading the head unit.
I think I fixed it. I noticed when I closed the driver's door the sound would kick on. I pulled the speaker and no wires were loose, however the speaker terminals were very close to the door frame. I wrapped it will electrical tape. So far everything is working.

So i just went out and opened and shut the door super easy and started the pp to check for speaker sound. Was working perfectly. I then opened and shut driver and passenger door many times and no effect.
I will keep tabs on this issue but not sure it has anything to do with the speaker wires.
Maybe something effected by unplugging the anc? PNW, did you unplug yours?
Anyway, if it happens again i may try plugging the anc back up.

I don't know what ANC even looks like. I just replaced the door speakers and did nothing else.

Gotcha. The Active Noise Cancelation device located in the dash behind the glove box. Was just curious if the unplugging could be the cause of my issues. This happened the first time about a Month ago so not sure whats going on. If it was simply the speaker wire connection one would think it would happen much more often.

Old thread, but this also just happened to me. In the middle of a 15-minute drive, sounds stops from all speakers except the SW. I just had the car in for the crackling sound last week, it's going back this Thursday because the static noise has returned. I believe they might have added new MOST connectors in the dash while trying to get rid of the crackling noise. I am wondering whether the connections to the speakers are unstable. When I stopped and started the vehicle, sound was back, then it went out again during my next drive. I tested the sound to all speakers in the cheat menu, they are all connected, so I don't think it has anything to do with aftermarket speakers.
I disconnected my ANC, months ago and with new Amps, Speakers & Sub, have had NO ISSUES since the "Most Fix" a couple of years ago...
Hopefully they will get the connectors fixed this week when I take it back in.

For any watching this old thread, I am happy to report that I think the recent issue was my own user error. I have been experimenting with new tweeters in the a-pillars. Because I was still 'testing' the tweeters, I had not yet soldered the wires in the front, I had simply twisted and taped them. One of the wires had gotten free and must have been contacting the other. After taping them more fully, the crackling is now gone. Once I decide on speakers, I will permanently solder and tape the wires.

Me too, thanks. I feel like a bit of a doofus, I should have checked the most obvious cause first but I went down the rabbit hole. At least it was an easy fix!

Mine has not done this for a while now but if it does i will check all my connections. I changed all four door speakers and twitters so my have a bad connection. I did use butt connectors on the twitters.

Might be worth a look, if the crackling starts. Mine was making crackling/static noise all from one speaker, so I should have known the source. Eventually, the sound went out to all speakers except the SW. The tweeter was the problem for me, I used harnesses from Crutchfield on all the other speakers. When I settle for sure on the tweeters, I will solder and tape the wires.

I changed the title, I initially thought it was the stereo unit. With help from the community, we have confirmed a fix.
