I'm curious, has anyone installed the Honda Sport skid plate on their vehicle. If so how do you like it and how hard was it to install?

There’s another thread that covers the skid plate, and from what I recall, if you change your own oil, the plate gets in the way and needs to be removed. Some have chosen to remove it permanently due to the inaccessibility of the drain plug. I’m wondering if the use of a Fomoto drain valve and tubing would make the job easier with the plate on, and a slight modification of the plate to get better access to the drain plug area.

I wonder if that means that the oil change people have to take it off too. I sure wouldn't want them to!
Just found this via Google. Did a search for skid plate here on the forum and got nothing. JSport Skid Plate - Detailed Install

There is a hole in the skid plate for draining oil.

Look at posts starting with #16 in the thread you linked above. You’ll see issues others had when changing the oil.

I did a search in the forum for Jsport plate and got many results, 302 to be exact.

Yep, that’s the valve I mentioned above. I use them on my generator and snowblower. Makes for a much easier and cleaner oil change. Here are pics of the valve on my Yamaha generator.

I have no experience with this company and can't remember where I got the link from, but here is another this skid plate.

What's the difference between b106sx and f106sx?
Just looks like the bolt design is slightly different in that one has a hex head that is exposed above the valve body, and the other is recessed into the body. Not much of a size difference. Give the company a call. They are very helpful.

Yes. I have the skid plate, and it does need removal at oil changes. Is the B106SX the correct plug for the Passport? Also when you install the plate the rear two bolts need a spacer to properly attach. You are putting a flat piece of aluminum on a curved piece of steel. It will slowly loosen and make a popping sound. Spacer takes care of it.

What size spacer did you use for the rear bolts?

I’ll have to check with my mechanic. I didn’t do it myself. I’ll let you know as soon as I find out. It’s an easy fix.

I have this one on my 2018 Ridgeline...(Burtman Industries) I'm waiting for this;
Jsport Safari Front Bumper for 2019+ Honda Passport
  • Integrated skid plate design
  • Bolts directly on to frame for strength
  • Steel tube construction
  • Durable powder coat finish
  • Light bar compatibility optional

larryd,

I have also been considering the Safari Bumper, mainly for the ease of adding a light bar.
Please post pictures when you are done with the installation.

Note: the "Integrated Skid Plate" on this bumper is not a skid plate that protects your oil pan, it is just the small plate in front of the bumper.

Answering my own question for a rear bolt spacer... 1/2" nut (AHF stamped on nut) and 3/8" fender washer (ALC stamped on washer). I tightened down the front and rear bolts which have eliminated the noises from the skid plate shifting. Time will tell if this resolves the problem.

For the rear bolt hardware, the hardware assembly is as follows (from top to bottom)...
  • 1/2" nut (AHF)... loosely fits around the 10mm flange bolt
  • 3/8" fender washer (ALC)... spans the gap of the slot for the 1/2" nut
  • skid plate (rear slot)
  • 3/8" fender washer (ALC)... spans the gap of the slot for the 10mm flange bolt
  • 10mm x 1.25 pitch thread x 35mm flange bolt
This might be a stupid question but does the NoLo skid plate create a noticeable change in MPG?
@ha-evolution pointed out to me that the new 2023 Pilot is getting skid plates. I looked at the Honda website and it does mention that fact. I wonder if the Pilot's skid plates will be compatible with my 2022 passport. If that is the case, then it would fall under Honda's warranty and the service shops at the dealerships would have to remove the plates to do service. I'm not sure how many plates there are on the new Pilot as of yet. Does anyone know?

The 2023 Pilot is a completely new vehicle, the underbody structure and bolt patterns are likely to be different from the 2016-2022 years that are similar to the Passport.

Oh well, it was a skid plate pipe dream.
