I'm currently shopping for a Passport Elite and this forum looks like it will be a valuable tool both before and after I become an owner. I'm leaning towards just ordering a '22 model as I would rather have the first year of a "refresh" rather than the last year of the older style. I've seen plenty of photos of what I think is an improved exterior, but I'm waiting to see if they've made any changes to the interior. (maybe getting rid of the piano black?). My first question for the group is what sort of deals have you been able to negotiate, given the fact that there are very few available? MSRP looks to be about $45k. Does anyone know what the dealer invoice $ is on an Elite? It's my first PURCHASE (rather than a lease) of a new vehicle, so I'm crossing my fingers that it'll be a good choice! Thanks in advance, everyone!

No idea how significant other 2022 updates will be.

Dealer Cost of an Elite 2021 is reported to be about $40,700.

The Passport isn't perfect but is well balanced in its class for performance and comfort, and so far has decent reliability (not really any data beyond 80K miles from anyone). The sensing package on the 2019-2021 is the weakest feature in my opinion, and hopefully gets updated to be more responsive and convenient. The strongest feature to me might be its AWD and comfort, as well as good snow and offroad performance without getting abysmmal gas mileage. It is a vehicle of smart trade offs, not amazing in any category but very good in most.

As for deals, I think way too much is different now for many of us to offer a comparison to your upcoming purchase situation. Maybe someone who just bought a 2021 can comment on their shopping experience, but you will be looking at a new model year, in a supply and labor shortage, with increasing demand. I would expect deals to be possible but not widespread or large. The best 'deals' I have ever gotten on a purchase are simply when I don't get screwed on any of the levers the dealer can pull to get money: price, financing, trade-in, fees and add ons. I show up with my own loan, demand no add ons, and make sure I get a good price, and am willing to walk out if the dealer is not reasonable. Some profit is fair, greed isn't. Good luck with your purchase and welcome!

Thanks for the reply storm303! Quite honestly, I really like the Acura RDX which checks a lot more boxes for me except of course price and I don't trust a Turbo 4 cyl long-term like I do a V-6. Your comment about "not amazing at any category, but very good at most" really hits home and is probably as good as one might expect in this price range. I appreciate it!

The company that I work for just started working with Honda and Honda shows up on my list of companies, which offer me a discount.
I logon on to Benefithub, select Honda 2021 Touring AWD, and get redirected to TruCar.
Trucar knocks $1,200 off of MSRP, BenefitHub knocks $350 off.

Three of the 7 Honda Dealers in Saint Louis were listed, by TruCar, and if I want to see what the others have to offer, I'll need to go to Edmunds dot com and enter my info.

Thru Edmunds, in 2019, my Touring AWD was discounted $5,777 off of MSRP, on Oct 24th.

That's great information! I really appreciate it!

If you are a Vet, you can join the Navy Federal Credit Union (for $5) and gain access to their car buying assistance program, that's what I did and got a great deal - one month after the Passport was initially released, when NONE of the dealers were marking them down...

Not sure how reliable the info is but what I have read is there is virtually no change on the '22 other than the front grill. Which personally I'm not a fan of compared to my '21 Elite. You may want to shop a leftover '21 if that is the case. Prices and supply have certainly gone upside down, when I bought mine in early April here on Long Island they had plenty and I got 10% off MSRP without trying hard. Good luck anyway.

Re: Truecar. It's a joke. I got prices on there that seemed great and when I called the dealers they scoffed at them and said "we honor that price but doesn't include destination fee's and other fee's". Literally was 3000.00 more than listed as their price.

TruCar dot com and Edmunds dot com do not include the State Sales taxes, the Destination charge, or the $199 - $499 Dealer fee. Note that each of the following offers indicate that Honda Customer Cash of $1,250 expires Nov 1, 2021. There will probably be a different Honda discount, after Nov 1st.

At the three dealers listed by TruCar (above post #4) there are 13 available Passports.
I cherry picked these offers that do not show the Dealer Fee of $500 nor do they list the $850 factory installed options, which will most likely be the Honda Weather mats and Honda cargo tray:

I just worked up some numbers, for my 2019 Touring AWD that has 10,085 miles.
CarMax has offered me $36,400

Blackbook shows:
My Credit Union's Finance value today = $36,925
Trade-in Clean = $38,090
Trade-in Average = $36,290
Retail Extra clean = $43,875
Retail Clean = $42,100
Retail Average = $38,325

I have not requested offers from the Edmunds dot com site, as I did in 2019. Back then, I forwarded the best Edmunds offer (-$5,777off MSRP = $35,403) to the dealer that had the color that I wanted and they matched it.

I bought at the end of month April, 2021 a 2021Touring White model for $38,000 all in with NJ sales tax $40,250 out the door, dealer threw in mats, cargo tray and locks. I've installed a Drawtite hitch and wiring for $225, Bernardi Honda purchased racks and low profile bug shield - great car, rides better thatn the 10 Subarus I have had in my life! My experience is never to buy a new model for 1 year until all the little crap is sorted out by the manufacturer, good luck.
