Rust on exhaust

2127 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  2020GonzPass
So I live in Dallas and as you know we had that snow and ice storm last month, which as a healthcare worker I am required to drive to work. After it was all done I did hose off the undercarriage of my car. Yesterday I noticed rust all over the exhaust. Nothing in the actual body of the car. Has anyone else experienced this? My last two Subaru’s never had this. I did send pics into my service advisor and will be curious what they say

I had rust on mine the third day I owned it. I live in Western New York.....tons of salt. In spite of all the salt, my Pilot had the same thing and after 5.5 years/105/000 miles it still had the original exhaust when I traded it in. Surface rust doesn’t count, only rust through.

That’s good to know. Thanks. And good point about surface rust vs rust through. I’ve had bearings in some of my sports equipment have rust but never damaged it. I simply removed it. Same analogy
Yes, even stainless tell will develop surface rust...not to worry, it could last the life of the car.
