Yes, you can spread the crossbars farther apart. The triangle markers are there for use with most of the Honda accessories (bike rack, etc) that require that specific spacing.
Roof rack crossbar positioning for canoe
I just had the crossbars put on my 2020 Passport. Primarily I want to use the rack for a canoe but when the crossbars were installed the were fairly close together. There is a triangle marker for positioning which is where they were installed.
My question is, Can I slide the crossbars further apart to better distribute the load for the length of my canoe? Do the crossbars have to be located by the triangle markers only?
