I think those VIN lookup sites are only for safety related recalls.

Lots of cars have recalls for software updates after the sale. If it's not safety related they usually just accomplish it at the next service visit. They should notify you, though.

Other products I've had with post-sale software/firmware updates are cell phones, cameras, printers, TVs...

It's probably because the stakes are high and production/sales schedules have to be met to compete. The "TCU Product Update" could just be adding Hondalink functionality or new menu items to the infotainment. In that case it would be foolish to delay production and sales for a minor update. I don't know exactly what it is, but I'll agree that the word "recall" could make someone feel uncomfortable.

Wierd. I run my passport VIN on the Honda site and comes back clean. No recalls. Does anyone know the details of the recall?

Its a very low level software update installed in Touring and Elite trim models. It manages the ATT 4G connection inside the car.

Exactly what is wrong we will probably never know. They are fixing them before anyone can complain.

It requires a dash tear out? Awh hell no! I thought it was just a half-hour software update.

I know you've already suffered, but I would get my deposit back and wait for a different Passport.

Whew. Okay, that's not too bad. I've pulled out the head unit in our Pilot to add an iPhone aux interface. The whole dash off would scare me, though. Sorry I jumped the gun.

You have to be the judge. I always cross my fingers when the dealer "fixes" things.
