Rear Differential fluid change tip

I did the first rear differential fluid change today on my 20 PP. Thanks to a few of the write ups here, it was very easy. One tip was using a bottle cap from a bottle of gear oil to pour the oil vs pumping it. I did not have any available so I purchased a nozzle that fits onto various bottles.

The nozzle worked flawlessly. Plenty of room to lift the bottle higher than the fill hole and you get every drop out. The hose was perfect length but I did take off the end cap thingy so the hose would fit in the hole farther.

Total volume used was 72 ounces. The PP was on level ground, no jack's or ramps. I'm 6-2 240lbs and I had no problem working underneath. I only used a short extension on the drain plug, none needed for the fill plug.

I believe its at 15k for the first time and then every 30k miles after that for normal usage or half of that for severe usage.
The car computer will tell you when it needs to be done.

Yes, your Passport comes with Break In Differential Oil (AWD Models) and recommended replacement oil at 15K and had dealership preform this for $125!

So will the car computer let you know when the first change must be done?

Mine didn't, when I took it in for service, the service writer told me about it and naturally, I had them preform the work! If, you have any other questions, I'm here!

Time for me to change the rear diff fluid, so I came here looking for tips. I was going to ask for recommendations on a fluid transfer pump, but I like how you were able to do it with just an extension tube/nozzle. I went out to take a look at how much room there is and I have to say, I'm impressed that you were able to fit under there and hold the bottle up high enough to fill. Not sure I can be as successful as you were. Anyone else able to do it without a pump?

You will not have a problem. I fit easily just sliding underneath. Im more round than flat lol. I didn't want to use the pump for various reasons. The extension tube works great and easy.

I used a pump the first time but used the gravity tube/ nozzle method the 2nd time which was much easier and faster. Plenty of room

Like at my local dealership. It's $168.
My other car: I used the pump. No mess. No drips.
This Passport: I used the gravity method, because there was enough room, but it was messier.

Mine went off at around 10k, but it the car is now three year old so it might be a mileage/time sensor.
