No need to sweat if you spill something. I spilled a small coffee to the transmission area in my 2020 Touring.
Lifting that whole console that the shifter buttons are attached is just two screws and the area under is just some plastic with wires wrapped in fabric. Just remove that middle area, unscrew the shifter keys. Then I washed everything with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) which cleans up all the natural oils in coffee and evaporates super quick + safe for electronics. No smell, no stains. The shifter is no different from any other buttons in electronics. Don't worry.
