Off-road Tires on Passport

I'm planning to check if the wheels fit in the spare tire well when I get it home. If it does, I might hold onto one myself and then yes, I'd be looking to sell the other three. If not, I'm hoping a Ridgeline or Pilot owner might like to step up to the full set.

To anyone getting aftermarket wheels (from a dealer or a retailer), be sure they are using hub centric rings if the wheels don't have the Honda OEM 64.1mm hub diameter. Wheels can be mounted if they have the correct bolt circle, but you could face vibration problems without the rings to center the wheel on the hub.

This is a direct bolt on replacement for the factory wheels, with no suspension adjustment required. If anyone is looking for full sized spares, or wants to upgrade their Sport or EXL wheels, I'll have a set of Touring wheels up for sale very soon.

Thanks! These are 265/60R18 Nitto Ridge Grappler in the aggressive orientation.

Nice! 18's will be a must for me! Do pilots come with 17s or 18s? Probably be able to trade rims and get a few bucks to boot!

Hey, like a lot the look of your wheel/tire package. I've been looking at something similar. What is the width of your wheels? By looking at Black Rhino's website they only seem to have 18 x 8 for the York, which seems to me to be a bit narrow for 265 mm wide wheels. Also, at 60% height you're overall wheel diameter is bigger than original. Did you had to tweak the speedometer?

This tire looks pretty darn good, anyone have any thoughts on it?

Thanks, these were spec'd and installed by my dealer and they did calibrate the speed-o. Personally, I think the factory wheel diameter is too small for the fenders, and this scale of wheel and stance feels like what the body of the Passport wants.

Based on most of the online calculators that I've looked at, we're in the sweet spot for this tire, have a look at this calculator for example. But you're right that Nitto lists it as a little too narrow. I haven't noticed any ride issues, in fact this is almost as smooth as the factory tires. We'll see if I have any troubles long term.

By its description it seems like the perfect tire for those who might be in off-road conditions fairly frequently. BUT, it doesn't come in direct-fit sizes for Passport's OEM 20" wheels. You would need to drop to 17" or 18" wheels, which would be preferable for off-road conditions anyway. Then you could get a size that would have an near equivalent circumference so as not to affect your speedometer.

17" > 245/65R17
18" > 245/60R18

My thoughts were to snag some OEM Ridgeline wheels and use the Continental in the 18 inch size. It's the OEM size for the Ridgeline. I have a friend with them on his LR4 and he has good things to say. They ride a lot quieter than the KO2's I have in my current Lexus which are overkill for the soft-roading I do.

I really wish the Michelin LTX AT/2 came in a size that was easy to get wheels for. I have them on a 2wd van and they continue to amaze me with some of the conditions it's gotten through off road

This is a wheel swap I really want to see. I think they have a rugged look but will keep that OEM appearance. I wish K02s didn't have any drawbacks because they look fantastic on everything.

Just my experience with these tires -- they could not be balanced correctly. I went through Discount Tire and after several attempts they were replaced with the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 tires. Discount Tire was great. I only had to pay for the difference in cost between the Continentals and the Nittos. This was for my previously owned Toyota Tacoma (traded in for Passport). I also had the same Nittos on my Jeep Wrangler. Never had a problem with the Nittos and will be going back to them when I change out my set-up for the Passport. Again, just my very recent experience. YMMV.

If you go from the stock 20’s down to 18’s remember you need to recalibrate the Passports onboard computer so your speedometer reflects the correct speed and you can correctly calculate your MPG.

Just depends on the tire you select. There are quite a few options that are nearly identical in diameter to the factory setup. Nothing to worry about there.

First, it depends. Stock 245/50-R20 have the same diameter as Pilot's stock 245/60-R18.

Second, if selected rim/wheel combination has different diameter, I doubt it is possible to change the reading of the speedometer. At least this is what google search brought me. Dealers do not want to change anything and it is not clear if they have access which would allow them to change it. Seems like it's liability issue.

You can absolutely change it. I have updated the settings on two Tundras when I went larger on Tires. Here is a good helpful tool. Remember, you are not changing the speedometer, but updating the onboard computer with the new tire size so you can record the correct speed and MPG. The liability is not updating the computer.

But here is the wrinkle. Different manufacturers allow different level of access to these settings. Honda is traditionally pretty locked down. So, I'd be glad if it is possible but only if it was proven.
