Wondering if there's any options avaliable besides vinyl wrap vehicle protection? I'd like to do my tailgate (the painted part, not the plastic trim) and possibly the first few inches of the hood. I tried vinyl wrap myself and only got mediocre results.

You may be able to trim that for the flat area on top, but getting it to form correctly inside the hand groove will be difficult. LMK how it goes.

XPEL makes a thicker version of their PPF called XPEL Armor that would probably work well there. I was just looking at that area yesterday while cleaning and may do something there myself.

Don't think I would shape it into the hand groove, rather have it either side - trim it down.
I'll have a go when it's warmer (better to work with it in hotter weather) and post an update.

I actually prefer the black look of rubber however... I don't want it to be invisible.

SoCal price in 4/2019 was $1800.00
This included the full front end - full hood, front bumper areas, headlights, fog lights, side view mirrors, front side fenders, all 4 door handle cups and the flat area on the cargo space.

I bought this from Amazon. When I need it, flip it out and it covers the top of the bumper. Flip it back it when I'm done and close the tailgate. Cheap and easy.

I agree completely. If the company that makes the OE Honda door sill vinyl made a pair for the tailgate sill I would buy them. I'd be fine with a clear piece for the hand groove area...
