Short of a dremel (only if desperate) are there after market solutions to allow the sliding cover to not pinch the cables connected via the USB ports? A natural opening for the cable, while allowing the cover to be closed?

I have one of those, but I don't like having wires draped across the console. That's also why I don't connect my phone to the Android play, the salesman had me set it up, but I didn't like having to only use the plug in front of the cupholders
They make short cables.

If you want to be prepared for those that also use iPhones then this is also a good option. I have a couple in my vehicle and carry one with my laptop.

I have wireless aa and no cables draped anywhere. I rarely plug my phone in to charge unless im on a trip. The small/short cable is very nice for that.

I may have to grab some new cables then, all of mine are USB-C on both ends so the USB ports in the car do not work. I actually have a power inverter plugged in the console and a home charger plugged into it so everything is contained within the console itself. It would be nice to just have a smaller cable to use. The wireless charger is good, but it doesn't charge nearly fast enough for those mornings of waking up and realizing your phone didn't charge overnight 😂

If you sit in the backseat and look at the rear console, down by you ankles, you'll see a USB port.
Buy one of these LINK and run your device's cable under the passenger side center console plastic, where it meats the carpet.

Call me paranoid, but I would never have an inverter plugged into my car for regular use. Those things dump so much electrical noise into the rest of the system that I'd be worried about damaging other components of the car over time. Anker sells quality 12v to usb-c power delivery adapters. They are pricey, but I can't imagine plugging a $1000 phone into a $5 gas station usb charger, and being at it's mercy to not fry my device... with the cost of electronics and supply chain issues, I try to baby the electrical systems as much as the mechanical ones... just my two cents!.... and that's before inflation! 😁 I make sure to slow charge my phone batteries too, as the heat kills them!

I've been using them for years and have never had an issue. I prefer to use a home charger to charge my phone at all times and this allows for that to happen. I honestly don't know the last time I have had any phone plugged into anything other than a 110v outlet. The inverters have their own fuses so if it gets a jolt from something it won't fry your phone, it'll just blow the fuse. Either way, I get a new phone every year and carry insurance on them so I've never been concerned with any issues. With that being said, I've also never had an issue arise so I guess that plays into account as well

How I do it...
I carry 2 phones, a portable USB battery pack, 2 USB (A to C) cables, and a Samsung Fast Charger (110v to USB-A).
On the road, I plug main phone into the front USB, place the other phone on the PP's wireless charger. Then, the tiny 'wall adapter' plugs into the 110v outlet (center console rear seat area, Elite only?), with a USB-A to USB-C cable from that to the battery pack. (I carry all of this on my hikes, leaving nothing in car).

Note: The Samsung 110v adapter will recharge any of my USB devices FASTER than any of the PP's USB port or Wireless Charger will.
The PP's built-in electronics for USB don't offer any safer protection (for power noise) than most wall adapters, and most modern phones (e.g. iPhone, Android) should immediately (temporarily) cut off the phone's charging port if it detects something amiss with power supply (e.g. moisture, broken wire, bad connection, etc.) If concerned about power noise (which is a real thing, but rarely bad enough to be overly worried about), you'd have to bring-your-own extra filtering device for that.

Great posts, everyone!

The noise I was speaking of was only referencing the 12vdc -> 110vac inverter. Once I paid good money for a 12v pure sine wave inverter and plugged it into a friend's truck, but as soon as I did, the screen on his phone plugged into the truck's USB port turned on, and the screen would jitter and not respond to inputs from his finger most times, but if it did take an input, it would be as if he touched a different area of the screen. Shut off the inverter? Issue disappears instantly. Turn it back on? Instantly back to the same problem. I figure that interference wasn't present when used on my vehicle due to more advanced electronic filtering circuits, but I assume that no filtering will work perfectly forever, and if that's the case, then it's not "if", but "when" it fails, what will it do to the car, if you're driving at the time? Activate abs? Freeze the electronic steering module? Maybe it'll just turn the blinkers on! Just a thought, and just my own experience...I love that we can all do our own thing though, first and foremost!! Thanks guys! 😎👍

Maybe I'm just oblivious to it or possibly because mine sits in the console, but I have no noises (again, that I notice). Mines a 100w 12vdc to 110vac. It's hard to tell though, I've used one in every car I've owned since I had a 95 F150 and I've never had an issue. I guess until I have an issue there's nothing to truly worry about, but like you said, it might be a matter of "when" instead of "if." I guess if something happens, I'll get to put this ridiculous insurance to work for once 😂

Some inverters can create some weird issues with capacitive touchscreens. It has a lot to do with higher than normal leakage voltage that messes with the screen. It can cause issues with car computers but usually these are designed so that certain interference is allowed. Think of ignition coils on a car. They can create huge amount of EMI.

That's very true! The old trick of turning to AM radio to see if you could hear bad ignition is all emi-based! Thanks for the post, I hope it assuages any fears or misconceptions 😎
