Need to know if others are having a similar issue. I have ~4500 miles on my 2019 Passport Elite.
Been to the dealer and they said this could be a 'normal characteristic' of the transmission. Would like to see if others are having similar issues.
To replicate put the car is Sport mode then manual shift. Get to 45 mph then shift back and forth from 7-8th gear. My car produces a buzzing noise similar to going over rumble strips. It is worrisome as it seems to be getting louder over time.

Has the dealer take out another Passport and they said it made the same noise. I have never heard a noise like this from any other car I have driven.
Please try and replicate, so I can build a case. I am about to go test drive other Passports to see for myself.

The words could be describe nothing. The experience tells the tale. Can they replicate the action with another vehicle? If not then is not.

I've been having this issue with my Passport Elite and it drives me nuts. I notice it between 45-55 MPH but most often it happens when I let off the gas around 45 MPH. The dealer looked at this and test drove it and compared to other Passports and said they did not experience any issues, however I don't know for certain they reproduced the sound. It almost sounds like a spiring uncoiling when it happens in mine. I have also noticed it seems to happen more frequently and is louder when it is warmer.

Same here. I have posted a same thread awhile ago.

This happens especially in 45-50 mph range when sudden acceleration is needed.

Someone at Honda Financial contacted me about another issue and said it could be related to cylinders shutting down?!? No idea on this though.

Also when it's in outdoor temp is below 50. I always hear some noise shifting in low 20s when the car is not warmed up..

This is getting worse as the weather is getting colder. Is anyone else able to replicate this issue? I am afraid the transmission is going to crap out on me.

I have the same issue and it started around the same time. I now have 7000 miles. I have a recall so I will bring it up when I take it in soon. Mine does it every time I get to 45, let off the gas, and it shifts up. Seems to be only from 7 to 8. I did have the dealer put a transmission cooler on at about 1500 miles. wonder if it is related.

I have a OEM tranny cooler also. And my PP makes the same noise you are describing on the 7-8 shift. BTW - That shift is when the "dog clutch" in the 9 speed trans disengages. I initially took my PP in to two different dealers at around 4500 miles. Even thought the cooler was installed before delivery, the noise started about at that 4500 mile mark. Both dealers easily replicated the noise and both said they had never heard it before. Honda USA told them that the noise was a "normal characteristic" of PPs with OEM coolers. I did not like that answer so I took Honda to arbitration. I lost the case because the arbiter said that the noise was a design defect, not a manufacturing defect. I gave up at that point. Still makes the noise and I have just learned to deal with it. 15k on the PP now. Noise has not gotten better nor worse.

Refused to honor a fix even though it was reported during warranty. I dont buy Chrysler nor Toyota. They ignore their dead bodies.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear the arbitration didn't work out. I wonder why the OEM transmission cooler causes this. Where did you find the information about the "dog clutch"? I would think if a dog clutch was making noise it is due to some other synchronization issue. I purchased this car for my wife to haul the kids around. She has absolutely no care for "weird noises" that I usually hear when I drive cars, but even she noticed this one. If it is truly a design vs manufacturing issue, I would like to understand so I know how long this car is going to last me. Maybe negotiate an extended tranny warranty.

Same here with my 2020 PP Elite AWD. Is like a loose spring noise under the drivers seat or underneath the car when driving over 40-50 mph.Tomorrow I have an appointment with the Honda dealer, will let you know.....

Thank you for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear the arbitration didn't work out. I wonder why the OEM transmission cooler causes this. Where did you find the information about the "dog clutch"? I would think if a dog clutch was making noise it is due to some other synchronization issue. I purchased this car for my wife to haul the kids around. She has absolutely no care for "weird noises" that I usually hear when I drive cars, but even she noticed this one. If it is truly a design vs manufacturing issue, I would like to understand so I know how long this car is going to last me. Maybe negotiate an extended tranny warranty.

No one up and down the "chain of command" could, would not, tell me why the noise occurs only on PPs with trans coolers.
