Hi all,

Just traded my 17 Ridgeline RTL-T in for a Honda Passport TrailSport, it was a hard decision to make and in the end I wasn't using the bed or towing much on the RL and I wanted a vehicle that enclosed much of what I normally transport on the weekends and what I feel is better suited for future camping and road trips out west.

Welcome!! I personally do not consider the Ridgeline or Santa Fe as a usable truck. I have had some form of real truck almost my whole life of driving. The bed space and tow capacity in those small crossover unibody rigs does not do much. They are great rigs for camping and "overloading" though.

I'm currently rolling in a workhorse. 2005 GMC Sierra standard cab, 4.3 liter V6, hand crank windows, NV 3500 5 speed stick with no AC. Modifications include a 3" knuckle lift, 2" leaf spacer, HD Heliwig sway bars, add a leaf and TruTrac with 3.73 gears.

The Passport is a great comfort-mobil in comparison. However for hauling dirt bikes and towing, my truck is the go to.

Truth… I’ve had Tacomas, a Tundra, 3 Dodge Rams, etc, as I used to live on a farm and a bed was needed. Now that I’m a suburban family man, a truck just isn’t practical for the majority of needs. They do come in handy if you have to transport something tall like a grill or fridge, furniture, wood, etc, but for “most” people that’s just very very rare. With that said, if you offroad and need a place to throw muddy tow straps, etc., have land, or move a lot of tools and stuff, a bed is hard to beat just throwing stuff in and hosing it out.

The Ridgeline is not a ”real truck”, it’s a real Ridgeline. If you must, think of it as a four-door El Camino or an open-bed SUV. It’s a silly argument IMO.

No argument here. Ridgeline is a great vehicle. I almost purchased a Ridgeline the first year they came out. The lack of bed space and poor tow capacity was a deal breaker.

A TRUCK: is a vehicle with a open bed in the back, so it is in fact "a truck".

Now, it may not tow or carry a 10,000 lb load, but it will carry a bike, fertilizer, camping gear and lawn chairs (like a truck)..

I know there are people who feel they gotta have the most macho truck, the biggest tires, the highest lift, etc. and sure the Honda can't compete, but to say it is NOT a truck is, well inaccurate.....

Hey Allen, dittos, I went with the PP TS as a replacement for an '08 Element. With the rear seats pulled out it's amazing what I could fit in my E. I leave one rear seat in but folded up for the 1 time a year where I need to carry a third person. I can fit a 10hp Ariens snow blower in it with the hatch closed. I was lucky enough to get a deer this year and drove the E into the woods to save me from dragging the deer out. I took a 30 day run out west in 2014 planned around and elk hunt I gave myself as a retirement gift. Since the Element is no longer made I ended up with a new PP. While it doesn't quite take the place of Ellie, Polly is almost as practical and can tow. A small flat bed trailer handles the stuff I can't fit inside Polly. I don't go crazy off road so a full blown 4x4 is not for me. The PP is a great all around vehicle for 99% of my needs. Best of luck to you with yours.
