Hi,

So I just got my brand new 2020 Passport EXL in August. Love the vehicle, I was so happy choosing something from Honda, will be a Honda customer for life, I know that. Such amazing realability and quality. First ever lease and new vehicle for myself. Payment per month is a bit high, my finance manager at my dealership, told me I was one tier below top tier for leasing, but my payments are $500+ 12,000 miles/year, 36 months. I don't think I was taken advantage of on this, would you agree? He explained to me since it was my first time and also a younger person leasing a vehicle this is normal to have to pay a bit more and higher down payment. Spotless credit history, always pay my bills. Average score. The sales guy and dealership are amazing. Lower than what I was expecting. I wish I would of got the touring, realizing now it was only $2,000 more, with more great features. But, being my first lease ever, it was probably a good thing with the lower monthly payment. In the future if I really want a new passport badly enough, could always break the lease and trade up. Again, amazing vehicle, just really happy to have a reliable vehicle, that will get me through the snowy winters and the Passport drives like a dream, always excited to go anywhere with it. Do you guys agree, the EXL was a good choice for my first new vehicle? Its only for myself as well. All your Elites look amazing, that is definitely something I'll be looking at in my next lease.

Just great to be here with everyone.

good Luck with your passport. that payment seems a little high to me. When you lease you have to look at the money factor. I use to lease and I learned the hard way that it’s just to expensive over the long term. My last job changed and I put to many miles on and owed 4,200 when I turned it in. I should have leased the last VW I bought, because that was junk and I wouldn’t mind turning that in. Leasing does work for some people and if your happy that is what’s important.

I've leased about 10 cars/trucks/SUVs over the past 30 years. It started out as a great deal. I remember when Ford would lease a new Taurus for $199/mo for 23 months with no down payment. I did 4 of these. At the end of the lease I would buy the car and sell it, generally picking up $1,000 over my buyout. That really cheapened up the lease. As time passed, leasing became more expensive. Lessors found themselves upside down at times with thousands of vehicles coming at them that they would loose money on. That signaled the end of cheap leases. Now we just purchase our rides and sell them outright when we want to upgrade.

Leasing probably makes sense for business and those willing to pay a premium for the right to own a new ride every three years and generally always have something on warranty, but to most of us, leasing is expensive.

I always buy, especially because I typically plan to keep the car long term.

Now, I know lots of people out there like to lease, the best reason I can see is that you can get a new car every few years. And I know business owners like to lease as they can write off the payments as a business expense.

But for the average schmoe (like me) I think leasing costs more, much, much more...

And to the OP, welcome and congrats, yeah the Touring model (which I own) has a lot more than the E-XL. At the end of your lease, you can buy a new or lease-return Touring Model. Just enjoy what ya got, it's a fine vehicle...!

@Steveg203 For myself I live very close to my work, and now WFH really not putting on miles haha. What really got me to lease is my dealership, talked about how its all under warranty all repairs will be covered, just have to worry about oil changes, for me this was huge, as I had a 02 Impala, ran great, but I had to start putting money into it, just to keep it going. Also, my sales manager really connected with me on this, as he was telling me he had the same issue, put money in an older car, that was going out.

@mcrimm For myself, just makes sense, no more worrying about issues or having to find a buyer if I had to sell the vehicle.

@stevenD Thanks for the welcome, I agree Steve, I enjoy the EXL very much, glad you understand, I was just desiring a bit more, for no reason haha. The engine runs so quiet, the 280 HP, just goes super quick, also never touched the echo mode, the tank in the Passport is also five gal (US) bigger then my old Impala, only been to fill the tank up twice, and that was just because once I went to visit family two hours away. Just, an amazing vehicle, only one I test drove, only one the sales guy should me after our phone call, I knew it was the ride for me.

Do you guys think Honda, would again ever stop making the Passport? I hope not, I do also like the Ridgeline, have an uncle, that only enjoys the Pre 2010 style of those. He had two of them as well, he told me he didn't enjoy the look of the new ones. I think their sharp, that black edition though.

@2020GonzPass Yeah I know the payments are a bit high, only downside, everything is just great, just so happy I picked the Passport. Looking forward to see how it does in Winter driving.

Congrats! Remember that you are responsible for any excessive wear and tear and also tires. Not familiar w/ the tier system in leasing, never felt that a lease was in my best interest. As anything for sale, leases are negotiable also. $500 a month plus insurance is a big note. As long as you are pleased, can afford it, nothing else really matters. Enjoy.

Congrats on your new PP!

New lessee here as well. $414/mo for a Lunar Silver EXL - only first payment due at signing. I used Rodo, have had success with them in the past. Couldn’t find a similar deal on leasehackr.

I lease because I have vehicle ADD.

Excited to get started on this thing!

I got into touring for $449 a month including Philly taxes. They were giving me Elite for that price. No money down either. EXL is well equipped, so enjoy it!
