They added my Unit ID yesterday. I had called again to follow up. Think they just did it while I was on the phone. Probably got tired of me following up. Support person was great. He patiently waited to make sure all was good while I redownloaded xml file from car and updated the Garmin Express program to newer version on pc and then started download of maps. Once going, we ended the call. Download from their server took less than 30 minutes. Install to car was about 15. Now on version 2020.10. Drove over one of the redone NYC bridges and it is now updated on their current maps. No more driving through the water. Yay!!!!

On my stand-alone portable Garmin navigation unit, the newest map update is 2020.30. For some reason Garmin updates for Honda vehicles are a couple of versions behind.

No

Follow these directions and pick Pilot as the car. Use a Fat32 formatted 16 gb USB stick

No go, called support just few mins back and they noted my Unit I’d and explain them about errors and they couldn’t find unit I’d as valid in there end so they noted all info and had me email them device.xml file and said they will update it on there back end and may take upto a week..?

First attempt resulted in a failure. New 64G USB 3.0, formatted Fat32.

Insert in car, start her up and within a min she was ready so back to the house.
As Garmin Express is already on my computer when I added this new stick it was recognized and asked me to add it to the list with my other devices. It soon advised a new map was available and I clicked to update it.

Receiving an error message from Garmin advising they were having a problem communicating with their servers. I've repeatedly retried and continue to receive this message.

I just finished uploading to the car. No problems. Pretty quick, less than half an hour.

I frankly don't really need this update since I use Google Maps, but I figured what the heck. Does anyone here use the built-in Garmin Nav instead of Google or Apple Maps??

I'm posting this as a reply to myself in case it helps someone else.
My error message came about because I was using an older version of garmin express. Once I updated that things began to work ...
up until it then notified me that express won't work with anything larger than a 32G thumb drive. So back to amazon for a smaller drive.

Yes, I only use the built in GPS. It does a fine job except the ETA on the GPS is always wrong, on a 3 hour trip it will show it as taking 4 hours.

Well if it's not one thing it's another. I tried my USB 2.0 32GB FAT32 stick and while the PP wrote to the stick and Garmin Express likes what it read well enough (showing v2020.10 available) when I go to Install right at Step 1 Insert a USB Drive I get an error: The USB drive cannot be larger than 32 GB.

Of course, my 32GB drive is not larger than 32 GB so I dunno why Garmin Express doesn't like it! Feels like some sort of consipiracy to get all of us to buy 16GB USB sticks!?!?!?!?!

EDIT: Well, I managed with a proggie called Bootice to re-partition my USB stick and get it to look like a 16GB. At least, the Honda wrote to it and Garmin Express is now downloading the maps. Looks like a couple hours yet for my slow-ish ISP to get the 9+GB file(s) down.

Well it's all done, maps updated to 2020.10. Easy enough and proof once again I suppose of something that's way easier to do than it is to describe! Whatever the earlier issues might have been with getting Garmin Express to recognize the vehicle, well GE recognized my PP right-off and except for the USB stick issue it was painless--maybe 1-1/2 hours to download the maps and 20 minutes or so to actually update the Honda.

No doubt the instructions say to start-and-run the vehicle during the last (upload) step in order that there be no chance of the battery dying and the update failing (or worse, bricking the nav system)!
