I received my 32GB USB drive. I followed the instructions above and the update process was straightforward. The maps were updated from version 2018.10 to 2019.11.

The USB drive I ordered is the SanDisk Ultra CZ48 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive
Did you keep it in park the whole time? I tried this with my 2016 Accord and got bored so went for a drive and in the middle of said drive the update failed. Never tried after that.

A new update for my Garmin nuvi 2589LMT was released today. Version 8.80 Full Coverage Map of North America 2020.20. The current version in my Elite is 2019.11 which is two or three updates behind.

The Garmin nuvi 2589LMT is by far a better GPS device. The Garmin in the Elite seems to be missing many POI, it can't find the Home Depot in town.

Stuck,

Too bad Honda choose to put a limited feature gps in the Passport. For a couple hundred bucks you can pick up a much better unit.

I have yet to buy a car or truck with a decent gps.

Recently there were updates available on the head unit itself. I did the updates, and now my map data won’t load (the message is “Map data is loading”, and the section of screen where the map usually is, is dark). When I check the GPS settings, it shows me that the GPS is off, and I can’t figure out where to enable it. My current Honda SW version is B.1.0.21, but I’ve seen a notice for B.1.0.25, and one of the items it fixes is the audio pop that occurs when moving forward the first time after starting the car. I’ve tried doing the updates via the USB method, but it tells me my system is already up to date. My Nav software is version 2.05.09, but I don’t know if that really is the most current version.

Frankly, the GPS is a little wonky, so I primarily use CarPlay, but I’ll take the car to the dealer in 2-3 weeks and have them check it.

Other than this minor little glitch, the car is an absolute dream to drive — comfortable, quiet, powerful, and roomy.

Wanted to create a Garmin account today so I went the the procedure of map updates so that I could get it synced with Garmin Express. Came up as Honda Odyssey and a serial number, and then the message: "The specified Unit ID is invalid. Please contact Customer Care for help."
Has anyone else come across this situation? Going to the Garmin help portal was no help because you need to enter the serial number which tells says it's invalid again. BTW, finding a contact phone number on Garmin's web site was a challenge.

Initiate a map update with a USB flash drive and your Passport. This will encode the necessary information for Garmin Express as the second step.

Yes I did that and the necessary information to the USB is what Garmin Express is saying in invalid. :(

Talked with Garmin service center today. They said it isn't uncommon for the newer product serial numbers not be included in the system. Had to send a pic of the Navigation Setting Systems Information screen and the garmindevice.xml file from the USB. They will add it to the Garmin Express and e-mail me when this has been done.

Received message from Garmin that my serial number is now valid. I can confirm that we get free updates for 5 years from date of purchase. I'm downloading an update as I type this reply. (y)

I too have the invalid Unit ID. Contacted garmin support and emailed them the garmindevice.xml file from usb. Did that last Monday. Still waiting for them to update. I‘ve called a few times to follow up. Each time was told working on it and to check back in another day or so. Not sure why it would take so long, unless there are a lot of us that need to be added and they are just going down the list. I purchased car in July, should have checked back then.

I’d recommend everyone check if their Unit ID is valid or not, so you can get it updated sooner rather than later and before you need to do an update.

On a side note, one support person told me they sometimes don’t update their files to add new Unit ID’s until an update is available which wouldn’t be until sometime next year. He told me I had the latest update as the car was bought in July. I was shocked as I recently drove over some bridges in NYC area that were rebuilt and the voice kept telling me “please drive to highlighted route” or something like that. They redid the bridges in October 2017 and May 2018, guess it‘s not updated on the gps yet.

Does anyone know the latest version that is available for the Passport.
