2 months into new 2021 passport and just got
Maintenance notice “a” pop up at 2100 miles.
Oil on Honda link is 15 percent
Is this normal? I purchased a oil package from Honda that recommended every 6000 miles
Bit confused

That's very much not normal... I'm not sure any driving conditions would take what is normally 9000+ miles to 2500. Sorry, not much help here. Probably worth a dealer visit as it's under warranty.

My 2021 Elite that I picked up in November of 2020 just turned 1000 miles and I have the same maintenance reminder for the oil change. Will bring it to the dealership next month because they are doing it for free as well as the state Motor vehicle inspection.

I have a '18 Odyssey and the newer Hondas have a engine oil quality sensor which triggers the Oil change. Mine had its first oil change around 2000 miles and then the duration appears to increase. I also got a transmission oil change around 4000 miles which I thought was too early. But at least it is a sensor that is doing what it is programmed to do and not someone scamming you.

I have been reading about the HEMI engines in FCA vehicles having their lifters getting worn out - supposedly those vehicle are fleet vehicles that idle a lot and that breaks down the engine oil before the oil change miles are hit and results in the lifters getting worn. Hopefully, the hondas dont have that problem.

my 2020 Touring had this go off at the 5K mark? Might be time related but the dealer said that these newer SUVs require a "unqiue" one time replacement of oil because of the initial way it was staged post manufacturing & it's potential for sitting for months on the lot. They wanted $160 to refresh the special treatment - I'm no where close to explaining this correctly but I told them a firm no. I think this was around the same visit as when they resolved my "too-tight" Infotainment cabling issue that caused the crackling and power loss during use - anyway they techs accidently performed the special oil change out even though I declined it - got it done for free :) I trust that it was a good intentioned engine treatment but to get hit with a $160 mandatory fluid change out seemed excessive.

Have my 2021 Elite for 7 months now, just hit 3100 miles. Maintenance minder is at 50%.
I think you did the right thing to schedule an appointment. Does seem early.

Here is a bit of advice for all of us. As a former ASE certified mech years gone by, it was always a given to change your oil after a break in period of 2-3k miles. This allowed for metal shavings from just break in. deposited in the filter system to be removed, any lowered viscosity in the engine oil as parts settled in and to refresh the oil system with virgin oil. In todays climate we have so many sensors involved in the cooling of not only the engine oil but also the transmission temp, I wouldn't be surprised you have triggered a sensor which could be to a number of controlled areas and the car has determined "svc oil needed" sure the oil life is based on millage and use. Oher engine sensors are based on Oil pressure and oil temp. That notion, change oil at 3k was bumped by the consumers and moved back to 5k intervals. I would be going to the dealer and getting an oil change, I would be freaking out it could be a collapsed or plugged oil filter which can and will damage the engine if not changed. r

From what I've gathered it seems like the Hemi issues have more to do with the fact that the manufacturer recommends using 5w20 oil in an engine that many drive hard and often times push to the limit. The oil doesn't hold up and problems occur. I know many who have switched to something like a 5w30 or 0w40 and have logged a lot of miles without issue. But if you have your oil changed at a Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram dealership they will put 5w20 in that engine per manufacturer recommendation.

I think that recommendation is a good one to adhere to with the current widespread adoption of GDI engine usage throughout the current automotive industry. Many GDI engines, ones with turbos in particular, have a reputation for being hard on motor oil. Even if they are not hard on oil they have been engineered to allow for excessive amounts of blow by due to lowered piston ring clearances which helps to cut down on tailpipe emissions. That leads to more fuel dilution and carbon soot ending up in your crankcase, getting rid of that stuff is top priority when too much of it occurs and the only way of doing it is by changing your oil. No time is a bad time to do that.

Just returned from the dealer today and they recommend just changing the oil. Doing this will start a new fresh record/ track to see if any issues with the maintenance software moving forward.
.
They did note that they don't know how long after build-in the Factory it sits etc, although the sticker in my door states DOM 7/2021 and I took delivery 8/2021.(maybe because of the chip/shortage delay the Engine assembly was done much earlier)

Thanks to everyone and the talented professionals who took the time to give a very detailed opinion on this. ( Very Appreciated) I understand now that there is no cookie-cutter approach anymore on how long or how many miles between oil changes, it really based on when the computer and sensors tell us its time!
