My 2020 came with tinted windows, it was a dealer added bonus thrown in.
They are pretty dark, darker than the tinted windows on my CR-V.
The driver and passenger windows on my CR-V are a lighter than the rear windows.
The driver and passenger windows on my Passport are just as dark as the rear windows.
Noticeably darker.
I'm not complaining, but are they legal in North Carolina?
Asking those on this great site who live in NC.
Would a dealer in my area sell me a vehicle with illegal tint?
I love them and they really cool the interior.
Just checking.

Best bet is to look up your state and get the confirmation.

Also, most dealers sell vehicles with tinted glass. That offers no protection to yourself if your window shatters or from the sun or keeping your interior in better shape.

Mine are illegal and have been in probably every Honda.
I‘m pink, have a history of skin cancer and don’t care what anyone says!

You're saying that your Honda with factory tinted windows is illegal in the state of Ca. right?
My state says 35% of light must be able to go through side windows on an SUV.
I read in general, the factory window tint percentage for most car manufactures ranges between 15% and 20 %.
So if I read this correctly, Honda’s factory tint is illegal in my state.
Wow. What happens if I get cited, will Honda pay the fine? Factory tint cannot be removed.
Am I making a big deal out of nothing?

I suspect that you misinterpreted the information you read. Factory window tint on on the rear window is usually quite dark while the side windows are much lighter.

"What is factory tint? As the name implies, it is original pigmentation on a car’s windows installed during the manufacturing process. It is mostly applied to the rear window but more and more cars now have darker side windows.
This type of tint helps more with privacy than it does with shielding the interior of the car from ultraviolet (UV) rays. Although the exact amount varies, most automakers apply very little tint on car windows.
Generally, the factory window tint percentage ranges between 15% and 20 % on most cars. This means that the windows (usually the rear window) lets in just about the 15-20 % of visible light and deflect 85-85%.
When it comes to the side windows, you will notice that the original tint is much lighter, something in the range of 70-80%. As such, these windows let in more light and heat too."

.

If you are still concerned, then I would suggest you take your vehicle to any glass or tint shop. A good shop will have a tint meter that will quickly tell you what tint you have on the vehicle.

I have aftermarket tint that is illegally too dark for CA, in addition to a stripe across the top of the front window. I don’t know what our percentage allowed is, but it is not dark enough for me.

In my 20 years or so of darker tint, I’ve gotten one ticket. Last year, in my Passport, in 1/2 moon bay for everything he could check off his list. Mostly because I rolled a stop sign.

As for the ticket, I paid the fine.

Here in NY the changed the rules back in 2016 or 2017. 70% of the light must be able to come through the windows and it's part of the NYS inspection. I believe this translates to nothing is legal unless it comes from the factory that way.

I just looked it up, CA is 70% visibility too. Which is nothing. This state has many other bigger issues!
