Keys

So I just had a devastating experience being a single woman with my car. I took my car to a car wash and accidentally locked my phone and keys in the vehicle.

Ugh! I waited for my insurance roadside assistance which was a joke. I was still waiting after 4 hours.

So my question is...what do you suggest?

Have a hidden compartment under the wheel well?
I never want to be in this situation again. I am so grateful for the young man at McDonald's that allowed me to use his phone...and brought me water.

Sorry to read this situation happened to you. I thought locking the keyfob inside the Passport was almost impossible to do since the vehicle will unlock itself if it detects that keyfob anywhere inside the Passport. Even if you manually lock the doors using the door controls on your way out the vehicle will automatically unlock if Passport detects fob inside.

The doors and tailgate cannot be locked when
the smart entry remote is inside the vehicle.

Perhaps you can take the key from the second keyfob and find a place to "hide" it (magnetic key retainers are readily available)?
Remember that most thiefs also look in those 'typical' hiding places, too.

For a man (usually) locking my key fob in the car is a little harder as I (a man) always carry my PP key fob in my pants pocket and it never leaves that pocket until I return home. Sorry to hear about your experience. When my wife's car battery (a Lincoln) died her roadside assistance took several hours and that was pre-COVID on a warm summer day in September.

Same her, i did not think it was possible to lock your keys in the pp?

Nope. Didn't work. I was honestly locked out....

Nope. I thought so too. I definitely got locked out! Waited for three and a half hours while it turned dark and cold....when the car wash shut down and had to go to the McDonald's next door. A sweet young man allowed me to use his phone because he saw me crying at that point. I had to eventually call another company.

I have State Farm insurance and although they have been good at that side, their roadside assistance sucks big time!! Never again.
I will test this later today. I have mine set to the walk away locking feature so it automatically locks when you walk away. I will test this by leaving the fob in the pp when i get home.

Just curious, how did you accidently lock your keys in the car?

Your Honda Remote has a built in key in it. Have a spare key made to unlock the door. Carry it separate from your purse.

I need to ask a question: So if the lockout prevention system keeps the doors and tailgate from being locked when the key is inside the car, does this mean that anyone can open your car while you are inside? So you cannot lock the doors?

If you are in the car with the key fob it locks, once you open the door from inside it unlocks and if you leave the key fob inside it’s not supposed to lock.
It is possible for the key to be in the car, but undetected. Say for instance the fob is underneath your phone or shielded in some way. The car would not pick up that the key was inside. I've had a few occasions where the fob is sandwiched behind a phone and my magnetic wallet and the car doesn't realize the key fob is in the car. If the car was locked from the inside then that could result in this situation. My only suggestion would be to never lock the car from the inside. Lock with the fob or lock from outside door handle once the door is shut. It will not be possible to lock yourself out that way.

Did you try calling the Honda Road Side assistant?
I have tried to lock the fob in the car and it is possible. I checked to make sure it's locked by trying to open the doors while one fob is in the car and the second is in the house. Sure enough...it was locked, the only way to het back in was to get the fob out of the house.

That’s interesting. Not supposed to happen. I’m going to have to check mine. Was your Passport running or off?
Just tried mine and would not lock with my fob in the car. I do have the walk away auto lock selected and it did lock when I went back in the house. I also open the door and hit the lock button on the door and shut it. Soon as I grabbed the door handle on the outside it unlocked.
So I was unsuccessful in locking my key fob in my car!
