Hi, I’m considering getting a lift kit from JSport and wondering what about the Honda warranty in this case. I was speaking to my local dealership and they told me that:
  1. they won’t install the lift for me but I’m the second person asking for that, it looks dope but they operating only on OEM Honda parts.
  2. I will lose warranty on suspension.
I’m just wondering … Is that true that I can lose a warranty for suspension (only for suspension?) with that light modification where in US JSport is co-operating with Honda officially? Although, here in Canada they are like “What the heck is JSport?” :) Looking for some tips.

Odd as my local Honda dealer is also a JSport dealer and they have a lifted kitted Passport sitting out front right now! :)
OMG that’s crazy!!!! 😂 Driving to some official Honda dealership in US (when borders will be open), mounting lift in OFFICIAL OEM way, and keeping warranty? Sounds like a plan lol

Any modification, alteration of manufactures original equipment, operating system, failure to properly maintain will give them the right to deny any warranty repair or void the warranty. It's a slippery slope and one that usually benefits the dealer. Even returning the vehicle back to original prior to inspection or issue will cause question. A keen and well trained technician will deem it as abnormal wear and not due to factory equipment or normal operation.

PSA: There is no such thing as voiding the entire warranty on a vehicle, even if the vehicle has been modified.

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

The burden is on the dealer to deny warranty coverage for the component that may have failed/subject to a warranty claim.

I discussed this issue with my Honda Dealer when I started doing modifications to my Passport. They had discussed this with Honda USA and as far as Honda is concerned if the aftermarket modification causes the problem they will deny the warranty claim. Notice that I used the term aftermarket modification, not after market part.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits product manufacturers from conditioning consumer warranties on the use of any original equipment part or service. Furthermore, a manufacturer can only deny warranty coverage if it can demonstrate that a non-original equipment part or related service caused a defect to occur in the original product.

The important definition:

Aftermarket Parts: Aftermarket parts are designed similarly to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts and may meet the requirements; however, they may not be the exact measurements.

The lift kit would in all probability not be considered an after market part as the OEM, Honda, did not design or include a lift kit in or for the vehicle in the first place.

With that said, my dealer not only welcomed, but installed both my Fumoto oil drain valve and the Jsport skid plate when I got my first oil change, and they installed them free of charge. They have had many vehicles come in with skid plates these days and my dealer carries the Jsport accessories. They appreciated that I did the Fumoto, since I have 5 years of free service on my Passport. Makes it easier for them to do the oil changes.

For me, it comes down to choose your modifications wisely. I stay away from electrical/computer related mods as you will play [email protected]## trying to show that the modification to the software in the system didn't cause the problem.

To the OP sho, my comments above are for the USA. I know nothing about how modifications may or may not affect your warranty in Canada (assuming your location based upon the Canadian flag in your avatar). ;)

I wouldnt risk it . My other vehicle is a jeep wrangler and jeep says there a mod friendly manufacturer but I have lots of friends denied warranty over them having none factory lift kits installed. Wait till the warranty is up and then mod the shit out of it.
