Hi all,

We picked up our passport about a week ago and when looking around and under the car, I noticed that the piece where the drive shaft goes into and the control arms sit, is a dark rust color. Is this normal? I assume that the car sat on the lot for a while and perhaps this may have been the cause. Should I be concerned?

Also noticed that the brake rotors have rusty areas too - again, likely from sitting on a lot.

The car only had 100 miles on it when we picked it up.

Yeah...car probably sat on a lot for a little while. Check the door jamb, it will say when the car was built. Either way, dont sweat it. Normal.

My 2021 looks exactly the same.

Looks ok to me. My 2000 passport elite looked the same. It had a little of lot rot, 6 mo. But a year latter no problems.

I had the same concern even though its only surface rust. Noticed it a week after purchase with only 300mi.

So I painted that arm with an eco-friendly rust removal gel, which took it out. Then after coated with some boesheild t9. Seems both are just an annual fix. Figure its a good thing to try out for Michigan winters.

I would recommend removing you tire if you decide to apply something similar. You only want to use this stuff on things that have rust, so be quick to wipe off any over spray and certainly avoid getting it on other parts.

But I would leave the rotors as is. No need to chance anything.

Steel rust especially high strength steel. However, it's just surface rust.

Same here. I have never owned a vehicle that did this. I live in Florida so we don’t even see winter salt or snow. When I just noticed today I was like wtf until I came here and searched to make sure it wasn’t just me lol. Def a disappointing issue to come across

Yea it's perfectly fine. It's surface rust and it's solid steel not sheet metal. It will take decades for the part to fail.

Seems extreme considering it's not that visible and will not cause any mechanical issues.
