While driving, I spend a lot of time listening to Audible. The last few months, any book I happen to be listening to will "cut out" on bluetooth for a few seconds, then resume. The story (or music, if listening to that) does not pause, it simply continues. But I miss 5-10 seconds each time. At first I thought it was a poor recording file, but it happens with every book, and with Spotify music as well. If I am driving locally, this happens two - three times in a ten minute drive. Annoying.

It happens pulling out of my driveway -- which makes me think my iPhone XR is connected to my home wifi and then shifting away. But it seems to be happening elsewhere too.

I cannot identify if this is a bluetooth connection issue, an issue with my iPhone -- or something with my '21 Passport.

Thoughts? Thank in advance. And don't forget to vote in the poll nearby!!

Hey, have you looked at your actual phone, within seconds of it happening? The reason I ask is because, to me, it sounds like it could be NOTIFICATIONs. (???) Notifications silence your phone noise for a few seconds and then it resumes.
Could it be that your phone is trying to ask or tell you something? (Ex.... Do you want to connect to Honda App? Do you want to enable Apple Carplay? Do you want to enter a Focus Mode for driving? You just left your iPad behind? You just left your MacBook behind? You are no longer connected to. . . . ? a Device.)
Honestly, that's what I discovered with this latest iOS update, my phone is telling me things that it normally didnt before. (And actually nothing that I care about)

Rule of thumb of modern car stereos: If you are using CarPlay, do not use activate/pair BT. More than likely something in the Car's entertainment OS will get confused. I've had BMWs, Toyotas, Hondas, and Subarus with factory CarPlay capability, and everyone of their user forums have had issues with the CarPlay/BT combo.

Use audible/spotify apps native in CarPlay, or don't use CarPlay at all and do it the old fashioned way via BT. Don't mix the two.

Thanks for the reply, and this is why I posted. I am not using CarPlay, just "the old fashioned way" via Bluetooth. I'm stumped.

Any chance you are getting notifications during this time? Sometimes there's a setting to not pause during notifications. In that case the audio would continue, but it would be faded out so the notification noise (which can be silenced) could be heard. This could result in "dead air" time.

I hadn't considered that, thank you!

I use to have this exact issue with my old phone and a pair of BT headphones, I always blamed the headphones because they were the new addition. When I switched to a different phone the problem went away. So in my case it was the phone and/or some BT products just don't like each other as well as others. I voted for the phone, in my vehicle I have both Android Auto and BT going at same time and it has been flawless, (Pixel 7).
