And after some thought, the idea of a pick-up truck is good and the bed is a "nice to have" we don't really need the bed as much as we thought - especially after our Tacoma ownership.

I've carried longer boards, pipe, siding, flashing, trim, etc. INSIDE our Pilot than in any pickup bed I could have borrowed. Unless it's a load of mulch or gravel dropped in by a front loader, a large SUV is more useful more often than a truck. And you would need a full size truck (or Ridgeline) to carry 4x8 sheet materials. For those rare times, there are ways to get it home on your roof rack.
