I just seen an article that Honda is reintroducing the LX models saving $1400 on the base Civic and $3200 on the base CRV. The discount on the Civic ends to be a little larger, nowadays $1400 is 3 payments, not enough.

They would delete phone chargers, 18” rims, heated seats, sunroof etc. For me I’d be fine with a PP with roll up windows, backup cam, V6, sunroof, AWD and steel wheels ( I replace them anyway). Everything else is shut off anyways and it’s impossible to use the cruise control with the amount of traffic around here.

If there was a $30k Passport with manual everything - including transmission - i'm sold. Just have power steering and AC. Call it a Willys edition.

Agree with you except the manual trans, most of my cars since ‘88 have been stick shift but I’m really lovin the auto in my PP.

Personally I think the stripped down versions look better, the higher end models to me look like someone went into a Autozone and bought all the cheap bolt on stuff. A perfect example is the new Bronco that looks really good in the stripped down model with the old school white steel wheels.

Agreed with the stripped down bronco. Even the low end jeeps look great imo.

I suppose I can keep a manual sports car so I retract my previous statement of a manual PP.

I am content with how my PP Elite is equipped though I would prefer to NOT have the sunroof if I were given the choice, as long as it doesn't leak I can deal with it.

From what I learned in the car business there are many people on two ends of the spectrum that either want a fully loaded vehicle or a strip down vehicle and they together comprise the majority of new car buyers. Many people will select a mid-range model in the event that they can't get the top or bottom end model. I would say in light of the current economic circumstances that more people will be opting for a vehicle that will save them the most money and perhaps will be more inclined to look at a lightly used vehicle rather than a new vehicle that doesn't exactly meet their criteria.

As travelers seeking natural beauty on the roads of America, we personally make vehicle purchase decisions based on the new vehicle having a sunroof (who calls it a moonroof anymore, I'm usually not looking up at the moon).

Our last 5 vehicles had a sunroof by chosen option. Only my still current 2004 Durango ever had a leak from the sunroof. The issue was created over all these years of driving with ours open for many of its 150k USA road miles. Two of the sunroof drain holes (every car has 4 of them...2 in the front (L & R), 2 in the back (L & R) eventually got plugged from debris build up and water would drain into the vehicle. Once I unplugged the holes (primarily the front left one with a little blockage of the front R one) using about 6' of stiff weed wacker wire, the leak issue was no more.

My local small town auto upholstery and convertible replacement specialist said that plugged drain holes are the culprit 95+% of the time. He gave me the wire tip. You can even buy sunroof drain hole cleaning tools specifically for this issue. But I digress...

To us, there is nothing better than being in a forest or beach setting with the sunroof open. That happens a lot living very near the California coast line.

Beginning when our only child was very young, she picked up on her parents saying, "let's go convertible," as we rolled down all the windows and opened the sunroof.

Ah, the sweet smell of redwoods/Sequoia/pine trees or the very distinguishable ocean, has always and will always be sacrosanct to this family in particular.

Naw, I don't think Honda was listening, I think it was blind luck that they did something the OP was thinking should be done.. (lol)

As far a ala-cart items on your car, my 1985 Prelude came in 3 colors with two-different transmissions. The only real option was A/C, since it was made in Japan, all the A/C parts were packed in the trunk and if the Customer wanted A/C (which I did), the Dealer would install it here.

On my 2002 BMW 330i, there was an option to have little silver rings around your dash gages, if you did not want that it was all black.

Nowadays, Honda spends a lot of time and effort to determine what buyers TYPICALLY want and they try to fit those into each of the Model lines, a few years back, they determined the features on the Touring and Elite were similar enough to delete the Touring Model and buyers wanting the premium features would be steered into the Elites, which left the opening for the Trailsport Model....

As far as terminology goes my understanding is that a moonroof is one that does not open while a sunroof does. I could be very wrong but I don't think it matters that much 😃

I like having it to let more light in especially in the winter so more often than not I have the shade opened but I prefer to not open the glass except in rare circumstances. I'm the kind of person that almost always has their windows up and the sunroof closed when I'm driving. I do love having the glass opened on a clear starry night 🌃🌠
