I'm just wondering how accurate the oil reading is because it changed at least twice with little to no miles added. The Passport is at around 5.6k miles, and we left it out in the driveway when the gas prices started rising, yet the oil reading dropped to 15% when I reparked it last night.
I know some people around here only change their oil right when the Passport reads 15%, but now I'm thinking to just change it automatically every 5k miles, regardless of what the oil reading states.

I tried doing a quick search. Maybe heat and oil oxidation has something to do with this, but I'm not sure. Any other info would greatly be appreciated.

Your forgot about time. Unfortunately I don’t drive my Passport a lot and it showed my first oil change was needed at a little over 1000 miles. It has been about 200 miles and just under 4 months and it now shows 70% oil life left. The computer monitors time as well as mileage. The manuals on older cars used to refer cars with Little use to the severe duty section of the manual for maintenance.

That's good to know. I was never told that before. This is our first new vehicle, so your explanation actually helps. Thank you.

I did 1st oil change on PP at 1900. Going to do next change at 5k & send sample to Blackstone. Sitting at 3900 now with 70%; bought new in June 2021. Have always changed oil in all our vehicles between 3500-4000

I have seen on my 2019 PP as well as my 2021 CR-V that the maintenance minder comes alive at one-year intervals. My PP was built in March, so on March 17 B1 appeared on schedule. On the CR-V, built in October, got its' A6,7 on October 12. I put minimal mileage on both so I suspect heavy use would trigger it more often.

Yes, mileage or time, whichever comes first will show the "reminders" on the dash.

So as others have mentioned, it is time as well as miles.

But also, as I recall it only registers in 5% increments, so your real oil life may only have dropped from like 18% to 17% (or something like that) as It just "rounds" it to whatever the nearest 5% is..

PS: If you were, really, consistently losing 5% of oil life every month without driving it, please post back. I think we would all want to know about it 😳
