Hood Air Deflector Question

5733 Views 19 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Flyboyrls
I am considering having a hood air deflector installed on our 2021 Passport. Anyone know the advantages/disadvantages of the hood air deflector vs the low profile hood air deflector? I like the looks of the low profile one. Other than looks and price, I don't see any difference in coverage.

I can speak for the low profile, IMO it just protects the leading edge of the hood. Drainage is not an issue. I installed it myself, plenty of videos out there. I also installed AVS Aeroskin on CRV and Accord as well. If the leading edge of your hood is vulnerable, not a pad idea to install one. I like way it looks on the PP and it's much cheaper than film but that's a debateable topic.

Same here went with the low profile one. Very easy to install as long as you take your time. Got it for protecting the leading edge of hood plus I like the looks.

Does it hold up in a car wash?
Does it hold up in a car wash?
You can probably expect it to hold up for a a bit of time, it all depends on frequency of running it through. As your vehicle encounters the the very abusive nature of automated car washes, you'll see a quick deterioration of trim, accessories and the vehicles skin, ie: paint/clear coat. I don't care if it's touchless, a new establishment, or whatever else they claim. Nothing is or will ever be as forgiving or kind to your vehicle as a proper hand wash using good products and technique. I know, nut job know-it-all chef spouting about my fanatical obsession with all things detail...🤷🏻‍♂️
At the end of the day, what's important to you? Convenience, time, aesthetics, preservation, all of these?

I go to a touch free place in the winter then drive home to detail my rides. It has an air blower dryer where all previous deflectors held up but I’ve always had weather tech and they do not make one for the passport
The low profile hood deflector is held in place with double sided tape, the same way as the body side moulding. I never go through a car wash but here those places with monthly subscriptions are big with pickup owners. Basically, once I put the hose away for the winter, the car stays dirty. If there is a nice day during the winter I'll go to one of those DIY places.
What make is that one.....

It's Honda's. I ordered mine through Bernardi Parts.
Does it use fasteners or double stick tape to hold it on? It sure looks good and I want to protect the leading edge of the hood....
FWIW. I just installed the AVS Bugflector II on my 2021 Elite. It is advertised as only for the Pilot and Ridgeline, but fits perfectly on the PP 2019 thru 2021. I checked with my Honda dealer bodyshop and they said the hoods were interchangeable, so thought I would risk $59 at Amazon and try it. It is the AVS 24757 Bugflector II. Pictures taken in my garage so you get to see the door opener and electrical reel overhead for free. It attaches with 4 screw in clips which replace the existing ones holding on the weatherstrip. Took this old guy about 20 minutes.

If you have time can you post a picture or two from the sides? I'd like to see the height and how it looks... thanks!

Here you go Passporter. It fits quite close to the hood, I can get my thumb between it and the hood surface. I think it looks pretty good and a lot cheaper than the Honda offering. $59 at Amazon.

It also covers less of the hood than either of the 2 more expensive oem Honda ones. To each their own.
Looks like it will keep the snow from sliding off the hood come wintertime. For those in snow country.

Hey, what is your opinion on this thing? Is it deflects rocks / bugs ?
It helps, but nothing is perfect. It definitely protects the leading edge of your hood from rock chips. Mine is still gong strong and I hit the carwash at least weekly, sometimes twice during the summer and bug season. I have 51k on my 21 PP and only 1 small chip in the windshield (too small to repair) so I guess it does a fair job.
