I have has this on my top brake light and it actually worked better than I thought. The install for the blinking break light takes about 20 minutes. I think someone here posted a install manual which I used and worked perfect. I have noticed cars stopping much earlier when I hit my brakes. The modular will blink 3 fast than 3 long and than solid. I would recommend this as a good safety device to deter getting rear ended. As far as the law goes I have had police drive behind me and didn’t even bother with me on the light. I tried looking the law up in NJ and there was no really law I can find on the books for having this brake light. NJ has become very populated state since Covid arrived. A lot of New York plates around now and any open land has been built on with rental properties. So we has a big influx of New Yorkers come to our state. The roads were already bad but know its real bad. Also a lot more accidents in our area. I really like this product and think it should be standard on cars. The last thing I want is to get rear ended by a teenager or adult who’s texting. Just my opinion. I left a picture below we’re I bought it from and I think it was 5 or 6 bucks.

Interesting. Where did you install it, under hood or inside rear tailgate itself? Not sure about California laws around this. They were a trend and I saw quite a few of these many years but but I can't recall seeing a single flashing brake light in last 3+ years.

I'm a bit concerned about hypnotizing the driver behind me right into my back in stop and go traffic.
Lots of dealers install those modules, quite frankly I don't like them...totally annoying.
NHTSA specifically prohibits manufacturers, dealers etc from installing but not consumers.
Time to blackmail some local dealers!

I've used these on my motorcycles for several years. People definitely back off sooner when they see it.

Don't think your flashy light is going to prevent this. I hope it helps, but it certainly won't fix that problem.

It’s not plug and play but is very simple to install. Follow the guide posted above it only requires clipping 2 wires and connecting the modular. Believe me if it was difficult I wouldn’t have it done On my new Passport. My next project is to buy the cutoff for the engine shut off when you come to a full stop. That annoys the hell out of me because I forget to hit the button. The problem is I don’t want to rip apart a 8 month old dashboard to install it, also might give the dealer a way out of a warranty problem if a electric problem starts to happen with the truck. I know some people don’t like the flashing brake light. I just wanted to post what I have seen since I installed the light. If your on the bubble about getting one and live in high traffic areas I say go for it!

Installed it under the plastic piece you take off at the lift gate. The modular comes with a 3m sticker so just used the 3m on the medal of the tailgate. Very easy. I was surprised when I received the modular in the mail. It’s so small. Maybe 2x2 inches.
