I have a 2021 Honda Passport Touring vehicle and my transmission hesitates shifting when I am driving inder 25 mph. I just had it at the dealership where I purchased it and was told the cause was because I had the Eco button on driving through the city. I turned it off and it is still hesitating. Does anyone else have an issue with their new Passport doing this??

Hi Lisa,

Wasn’t sure if you meant that the transmission wasn’t shifting at lower speeds. If you do mean that, then it may be the “Grade Logic” programming the transmission has to control speed when going down hill or have power readily available when going up speed. This is an explanation from the Honda site….”While ascending or descending hills, Grade Logic Control alters the transmission’s shift schedule to reduce shift frequency and improve speed control. The transmission ECU continually measures throttle position, vehicle speed and acceleration/deceleration to determine when the vehicle is on a hill. The shift schedule is then adjusted – during ascents to hold the transmission in lower gears to boost climbing power, and during descents to provide greater engine braking.”
Hopefully this is what your noticing and not an issue with the transmission. Hope this helps!

Your post descibes it well. Each vehicle manufacturer who uses the ZF9 has the capability to code their own shifting parameters/ characteristics. Some folks like it some don 't. The ZF9 In both of my 2021 Passport's shift just fine and I have no complaints. Every auto trany I've owned from mfgr. to mfgr has shifted differently.

There are several posting about this issue...my 2019 does the dsame as it searches for the right gear around the 25mph mark when accelerating/de-accelerating. Not a big deal but a little annoying at times.

Thank you and yes I meant not shifting in lower speeds. I wasn't sure how to describe. I appreciate the info. I was worried because I'm getting ready to go on a big toad trip. I didn't want to get stuck somewhere. Thank you!!!

My late 2019 began to hesitate and shift hard around 24 and sometimes at 35. Brought it to the dealer and they updated the software for the transmission and now I no longer notice the transmission shifting. Very smooth.

^ When did you take it to the dealership? I have a horrible clunk sound and the rig bucks when I manually down shift from 3 to 2 in S mode. I'm only traveling about 25mph when this happens. Our transmission is one thing I do not like at all with our Passport.
