Picked up my 2021 Touring in September here in Cincinnati. Traded in my 2012 Honda Fit with 240k miles and got the PP on a great deal. Put 2984 miles on it in 1.5 months.

Then, last week a 17 year old girl lost control of her 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and managed to t-bone me on a 2 lane road while we were going in opposite directions. I have to say that I am happy I was in the PP. I'm afraid my Fit would have rolled several times and I may be in a pine box right now. Still waiting on estimates but I think it may be totaled for a bent frame. The front DS 1/4 panel and both DS doors need replaced and the front DS suspension is destroyed. As you can see my side airbags deployed. The car shut itself off and immediately had me on the phone with a Hondalink person who contacted police and fire for me. I'm just glad my dog wasn't with me. She'd have been dead, if anyone has any suggestions for a good car seat for a 40lb dog I'd appreciate any suggestions..

Thankfully Honda still has a 0% interest going here, I think I'm going to go down to an EX-L

Whoa!!! Most importantly, I'm glad you're OK. Hope the youngster in the Pontiac is OK too. No doubt her car is immediately a write off since it's pretty much worthless in any condition.

She bounced her head off the steering wheel or A pillar and had a pretty good cut on her forehead but seemed ok. I didn't talk to her much because I was so angry my car was wrecked and didn't want to be the 48 year old guy screaming at a 17 year old girl on what was already a very bad day for her. She lost control coming around that bend in the background of the picture and overcorrected. I think she actually hit the accelerator on accident trying to hit the brakes. I drove by there the day after and there were no skidmarks on her side of the street. Bad things happen from time to time and I too am glad that neither of us appear to have any major life altering injuries.

I have my dogs which are 50 lbs each tethered in. I put their harness on and it plugs into the seat belt. That will keep them from flying out of the vehicle.

Glad everyone is ok. Nasty looking accident. Why are you going down to an EX-L from the Touring? Do you find the added cost of the Touring trim isn't worth it? I'm considering the Touring and welcome all opinions on the differences between that and EX-L.

The main reason is that I got one hell of a deal on the Touring (only $1300 over the EX-L cost and below my expected budget going into the dealership). I very rarely have passengers in the car so heated rear seats are not something I need. The navigation system is nice...but I use Carplay almost all the time so I'll be using Waze most of the time. The hand free tailgate is again not something I see myself using very often and actually was going to be a pain since I need a hitch on mine and the parts to relocate the sensor are difficult to find. The main thing I spent the extra money for (believe it or not) was the 115v outlet as that would be useful for me to charge cameras, laptops etc. I'll be ecstatic if I get my Touring back in good condition because I loved it but the more this drags out the less I believe it isn't going to be totaled.

That's good to know and thank you for sharing. I'm deciding between EX-L and Touring. Like you rear heated seats don't phase me as I won't be sitting back there! LOL!. The acoustic glass on the front and rear doors in addition to the windshield (EXL) interests me though. Thinking wind noise would be less as a result of that. Premium audio in the Touring might be good too although I've never had it in my 2013 CRV so I probably won't miss it.

Make sure you get diminished value if they don't total it out!

Because it seems to have some damage to both the A and B pillars I will be shocked if they don't total it. But if your insurance is going the fix route ask and insist that all work should be done by an A+ shop else you will have to live with nasty gremlins for a long time especially as the crash is also going to affect the resale value in a big way.

Like I said, I'll be happy to have MY car back....however I am also a realist and I don't really expect it. As you said, the A and B pillar have significant damage and when I last saw it I looked down the body lines and I really think the frame is bent. Add to that a control arm, tie rods and whatever else got smashed in the front end, plus brake lines and side airbags and all the damage that does...I think I will be car shopping again soon.

I've ended up filing the claim with my insurance because the other driver's insurance told me they were afraid I would exceed their property damage limits (they did accept responsibility). So, my insurance warranties any repairs for the life of the vehicle and I trust the shop it is at (as must as you can trust any shop). I've not filed for a diminished value claim as I don't have one....yet.

After this is over I'm going to review my insurance. I have 100/300 property/medical but really that probably isn't enough anymore. It doesn't take long to get to 100k in damage with 2 cars involved. This poor young woman that hit me is going to end up getting sued by my insurance to cover their losses in the claim. I really want to make sure I am not in that situation.

Is everything resolved?

I am not sure what your work / personal life balance is but if you look far enough, you can probably find some that aren’t charged over MSRP and make a day trip (or small 2-3 day trip) out of it!

From what I have been reading though the out of state buyers are being charged an amount over MSRP now and not local buyers because the local purchasers could potentially do service / pay for those high profit services.

Good Luck mate!!!

Just looking on Cargurus, the cheapest EX-L Passport within 500 miles is $1500 less than what I could get one for locally...and it is 450 miles away. I'm cheap, but not so cheap that I would spend 20 hours driving to save $1500. I'll probably just go with a local one. Seems like scarlet and blue are more available locally than the modern steel I had.
