Hi,
Owner of a 2018 accord sport 2.0t and looking to add another Honda to the garage.

Going to ‘look’ Wednesday at a passport ex-l. I say look because we have a GMC Terrain with 8 months left on a lease.

I might be willing to eat a bit because we need a bigger vehicle and I’m really ready to be done with the terrain (wife’s choice when we got it).

MSRP on the passport I’m looking at is about 39. I’m in the south suburbs of Chicago.

Do I go in at 35, which I believe is close to invoice? Any insight is appreciated.

Welcome, it's been a while since I compared models, but the Touring model had a number of upgrades that made it worth it for me. I suggest checking the "Price Paid" thread.
I got very little on my negotiation on April 13, because of low to no inventory.

I was adamant about modern steel color and wanted a Touring model. They didn’t exist in CA, NV or AZ since February. So on April 12 the dealership closest to me called with an elite.

I was able to negotiate a 6 year warranty for the price of 5, a few hundred off the dealer alarm (KAHU) which turned out to be a GPS tracker system and some spray that protects the paint and interior. I also got $1k off if I financed for 7 months. The finance chargers were about $125/month so it was still a deal. I was willing to pay cash.

But then I add on the custom ceramic window tint for almost $900, running boards, all weather mats, cargo mat, splash guards (don’t recall all those costs), a clear bra protection for rock chips for $1800,
The dealer wouldn’t throw in any of the accessories.

Good luck

--- I am getting a PP this week as I test drove for 3 days .Had a CRV black ...NO more black ,I am female and older ...was going the gray or white ? why does everyone not like the white ? Modern steel ..doesnt it hide the black trim >the copper is awesome but too dark and yes dealer here isn't taking anything off for mats etc..... I am getting a touring model .Live in a cold climate ....And the prices up here are out of this world ......seriously ...
I have a similarly colored MDX that looks like the Modern Steel Honda color. I find it is not too hard to keep clean. I do love the white and lunar silver Passport. Both of those colors would be easy to keep clean as well.
Last Oct 24th, Honda offered $5777 off of MSRP and their sales numbers for 2020 are slightly worse.
See what trucar and edmunds can find for you (pricewise) and in 6 weeks check with them again, because their deals are good for a month.
Here's the most current sales numbers list...link
I have my eyes set on either PPT or PPE, with a price in my mind already @ 41k or 43k DRIVE OFF COST respectively. CoIncidentally, the best online quote I had was on PPT($36,647 destination included). The only catch is it’s almost 250 miles away from me, one way! So the deciding factor for me to take it being it is far from me is I get to VISIT a family that resides close to that dealership and getting the LOWEST PRICE QUOTE OTD that I’ve had.

If I don’t have a family that live there I might not get it as it is also a risk going there and not get the deal that they gave me on paper thru email. There’s always that risk that somehow they might go against your back and say hey, either get this “modified” quote from what we originally gave you or go back 250 miles empty handed” 🤷🏼‍♂️

It’s just weird as due to covid thing we weren’t able to hug/kiss like we all used to do (to each its own but I prefer to follow common sense when it comes to pandemic) but still enjoy each other’s company for a few moments BUT STILL I get to see them not just on FaceTime, AND I get to be back home with my new PASSPORT 🍻🍻🍻🍻

It’s all up to you. Weigh all the pros and cons. And set your mind on your own budget.

good luck,

I got the $5,777 off MSRP on my 2019 PPT via email.
I called a different Honda dealer and asked them to match it and they had me forward my discounted quote to them. Passports are at best "slow" sellers, so my local dealer was happy to get a PPT off of their lot.
wow ..you're kidding ?my dealer wants full price. tell me how ot get his MSRP

ty that is what I was thinking
Get two or three web sites that find "hot leads" to work for you. Trucar dot com finds leads for some dealerships and Edmunds dot com finds leads for different dealerships.
Autoguide dot com works with some of the same dealers, but might still work with another dealership.
1. Go to those sites and enter your e-mail address and a phone number. If you have a "burner phone" that is the number to use.
2. At each web site pick the specific year, make, and model. I leave the color blank. After you see where the different colors are being offered, by trucar, edmunds, and autoguide, deal with it then.
3. Have those web sites "find your price".
4. Don't answer your phone and as they get in touch via e-mail, pay attention to which web site is working for which specific dealerships and what the discounts/prices are. They will let you know in about 6 business hours.
5. Pick the best price. If a dealer has the best price, but doesn't have the color...call the dealer with the correct color and ask them if they'll match the price of the competition, if you forward them the quote. If they do - they do and if they don't - they don't. Just move on. Passports are slow moving merchandise and every dealer is having a hard time meeting sales expectation of the Passport.
6. Basic buying notes:
Don't tell a dealer why you want to buy from them, just ask if they price match.
When they ask you about money, lie to them and don't tell them that you have already arranged for financing. (The dealer will think that they can make more money thru their finance dept.) Always pre-arrange your financing at your bank or credit union. Never tell a dealership that you are paying cash.
Tell them that you are interested in the extended warranty, but don't buy it from them. If you really want the Honda extended warranty buy it online from one several sites listed on this/our Passport Forum, to save another thousand dollars(ish).
"out the door" price is what you want to have and that should be in the quote. Out the door will include about $99 - 299 dealer fee and transportation fee, but not the sales tax.

After you get the various web site prices, those prices will be good for a specific amount of time...I believe a month. Wait until late October and get a 2nd set of web prices and you'll see how badly the Passports are moving off the dealers' lots. September is an okay time to test the waters, but better prices are coming in late October. In my case, last year I saved another $3,000 by waiting until October 24th compared to the prices I got in September (Labor Day).

If you are not a Costco member, become one for $60 and you would probably get it for $35k without any haggling. Costco Auto Buying will have a participating Honda dealer contact you and get you a nice price. I’ve gotten two vehicles through Costco and it was pretty painless.

Here is a reply regarding a 2020 Passport Elite.
