Sheetz has dropped the price of their E88 (E15) gas for the next week or so here in PA so I am wondering if others here have tried it in their Honda vehicles (namely, the 2021 Passport) and what did you think? Running E88 in a car normally run on E87 (ethanol up to 10%) will likely drop fuel mileage a small amount (1~2%). Just curious what you've actually seen with real experience in modern Honda vehicles. I see the manual for my 2021 Passport says to use gas with no more than 15% ethanol so it appears I can use E15 in mine.

My wife has a 2020 CRV and we haven't tried E15 in her car either yet.

The subject of fuel came up when we bought our Passport. I had mentioned that we used E15 quite often in our '16 Pilot and our salesman started telling us horror stories about different 3.5L engines that had gone through their shop with issues related to E15 fuel. He even had the Service Foreman come out & talk to me about it. We never had any issues using it in our Pilot and even seemed to get better mileage using it over E10, when running down the interstate @ 78-80 mph. After discussing it with the SF, I decided it was best to stay away from E15 in our new Storm Trooper. That said, we consistently get 2-3 less mpg with it than from our Pilot.

I have used E15 (aka UNL88) fuel in my 2021 Passport several times to include the current tank I'm running on. I have not noticed any meaningful drop in fuel economy but I will say that there is a noticable decrease in engine performance IMO. Where I live in Wisconsin this fuel is usually on 5 cents cheaper but I was recently in southern Illinois and a station had it there for 15 cents cheaper than E10 blended 87 octane so I filled up with it and saved a few bucks.

Yeah, based upon what I am hearing from you guys (and others), it seems like sticking to regular 87 is best.
I think it is subjective what one would consider "best." What I think is best is using ethanol free gas but that is difficult to find and usually far more expensive than the standard fare E10 blended gas. Right now with gas prices being what they are I would prefer to save money if possible and in the instance that I can find E15 at a substantially lower cost versus E10, I have no problem using it.

I'm really surprised, this is page 493 in 2021 PP owners manual:

Some gasoline today is blended with oxygenates such as
ethanol. Your vehicle is designed to operate on
oxygenated gasoline containing up to 15% ethanol
by volume. Do not use gasoline containing methanol.
If you notice any undesirable operating symptoms, try
another service station or switch to another brand of
gasoline.

On a different note, if we are saving $0.05 per gallon on E15, and losing about 5% MPG, anyone tried to crunch the numbers if we are saving or losing by a serious margin?

So if you're paying $5 per gal. for E10 & getting 25 mpg it will take 4 gallons of fuel to drive 100 miles which will cost $20. If you're using E15 and getting 5% less mileage, that's 23.75 mpg. Using your figures it will take 4.21 gallons of E15 at $4.95 per gal. to drive 100 miles for a cost of $20.84 to drive the same 100 miles. FWIW, I used to use E15 in my '16 pilot occasionally @ interstate speeds and usually got better fuel economy... That said, my Honda dealership has me convinced NOT to use E15 in my Passport.

I wish I could buy fat-free gas (NO CORN OIL) that is not premium.

It's wierd that you would get better mileage on E15 compared to regular gas since it has less energy in it.

I agree, the math doesn't work out unless the cost difference is bigger.

I'm not sure what to tell you about the mileage. We probably ran 12-15 tankfulls of E15 over the last 2-3 years we had the Pilot when taking interstate trips @ 75-80 mph speeds and it was consistently better than running E10. I never did try using it on short trips or when the Pilot would sit in the garage for weeks at a time. It and our Passport are used mainly for longer trips. Again I'll state that I've been convinced NOT to use E15 in our Storm Trooper...
