After getting a few quotes for clear paint protection coverage ($$$) I decided to give it a shot myself. First I tried a clear 3M vinyl wrap and didn't like the results. So I did a bit more research and found this heavy duty textured film by XPEL. A 17' roll for $50. It's thicker than your average vinyl wrap, yet can still be heated and stretched around the curves.

I applied it to my door sills and it came out AWESOME!

I also applied it to my tail gate and it came out really good as well. The curves around the hand insert were tricky and required cutting several pieces to fit (because heating and stretching the material has it's limitations).

Overall I am very pleased. The door sills were seeing a lot of abuse from our 6 year old, and the tail gate was the first point of contact when for our 80 pound Labrador. Best part is that the XPEL can be removed at any time.

Cheers

Nice. I just installed the factory door sill protectors on my 2021 elite.

they had them pre cut as well for marking to show you where to fold. Looks like you measured and cut your own nicely(y). Did you ever use the factory sill protectors?. Cause we have a newborn and a 85 lbs lab jumping in and out :D was thinking about the 3M but definitely going to look into what you purchased for the rear seeing that you don’t recommend do to wear and tear.

The OEM door sills looks nice. I like to save on DIY whenever I can. The 3M product I tried was thinner and not textured. I wouldn't recommend clear either (unless you can do the entire area with 1 piece). Because each edge will collect dirt/dust very quickly. I believe XPEL dealers offer a precut piece for the tail gate. But I'm not sure what material they offer and how much it costs or covers.

They look great. I am installing they as soon as it gets a little warmer. Any tips for the install?

Agree with gr8wendt. OEM came with alcohol pads, but I used my own as well. They don’t come with instructions. Kinda figured out what the cut out slots were for. Then eye balled it with Honda’s picture and placed it on. Rubbed the air bubbles out with the cloth. Definitely not what I thought they were when I opened the box. Thought they were thicker as well for rubber. Turns out they are thin and kinda an semi durable thin metallic sticker. At least I’ll see how they’ll hold up. :)

WTFudge  I didn’t get those. Guess that’s why I jumped on this forum. I couldn’t even find them when I went to the link on the box. (y)
Go to College Hill Honda’s site they have downloadable instructions for all the accessories. I made copies of them to keep in my files of all the accessories I have, whether I installed them or the dealer did just in case I need them in the future.
