Collating information for those interested in a DIY engine oil and engine oil filter change on the 2019 Passport. It will be a while before I'm ready for service.

See PDF attachment below for the two page excerpt from the 2019 Passport Owner's Manual. This is different from the 2019 Passport Owner's Guide.

Other pertinent information as follows:
  • Supplies...
    • Engine Oil Filter Element: 15400-PLM-A02 or equivalent (same as most other Honda vehicles)
    • Engine Oil Drain Plug Washer (20mm): 94109-20000 or equivalent (same as most other Honda vehicles)
    • Engine Oil: 6 quarts of 0W-20 (recommended)
  • Tools...
    • oil filter wrench (such as, 3/8" ratchet & engine oil filter wrench 07AAA-PLCA100 )
    • 17mm socket & 1/2" ratchet for drain plug removal/install
    • torque wrench, as needed
  • Engine Oil Filter Torque: 12Nm / 8.7ft-lb (from an Accord factory service manual, see below)
  • Engine Oil Drain Plug Torque: 39Nm / 29ft-lb (from User's Manual)
  • Engine Oil Change Capacity: 5.7 US qt oil (from User's Manual)
Source for engine oil filter torque spec:

The Owner's Manual is not clear on the location of the Engine Drain Plug. It is located on the right side and pointing towards the rear of the vehicle. The photo is taken from behind the front-right wheel and perhaps the best access.

The engine oil filter (blue canister) is located inboard of the front-right wheel (first photo). It is visible through the wheel spokes with a light. It is accessible from behind the front-right wheel. Alternative is to remove the wheel for unobstructed access. There is a frame member below the engine oil filter, so a deflector or cardboard may help to prevent oil from dripping on the frame member and creating a mess.

Thank you for posting this! Too bad you can't use a Mityvac to suck the oil out like many other vehicles today. I can change the oil on my LR4 is 15 minutes and not get dirty at all. Plus the LR4 oil filter is on top of the engine in a canister that simply unscrews and you swap out the paper filter. Every Honda I have owned dumps oil on the suspension when changing the filter.

I think I still have the ramps that I used to change the oil on our old MDX. That should make Passport oil changes easier.

Mityvac should work ok. Use it on my 2017 Pilot and 2017 Ridgeline, Passport has the same engine setup.

As for the oil filter mess, slide a quart size freezer bag onto the filter just after you break it loose. Now unscrew the filter and bag, oil mess ends up in the bag. Very small mess to clean up afterwards.

HOW DO YOU RESET THE SERVICE LIGHTS... oil etc???

ok How do you reset the service lights without taking it to a dealer??

Just banged out a first oil change at 5000 miles. Used a Puralator One Filter (PL 14610) . Above advice on using Freezer bag when removing filter is good one. Kind of an average oil change degree of difficulty given the location of things compared to other vehicles I've had. Not a breeze, but not a pain in the ass. Used Royal Purple OW-20 full synthetic. Resetting oil life computer was easiest part of it.

@DudeCS Where did you find this part number at? I called Advanced Auto Parts and NAPA and they didn't know what size fit the Passport. I also couldn't find any reference to this in any of the manuals. Thanks!

The correct part number is 94109-14000 (14mm). I will correct the posting, if possible. It is the same size washer for all current generations of Honda vehicles. One size fits all. :) You can buy it by the boat load on Amazon. Approximate dimensions per Q&A:
  • 14.32mm, 0.564" I.D ... I verified this dimension.
  • 21.76mm, 08565" O.D.

Thanks @DudeCS, I spoke with the dealer and they confirmed 14mm is the correct size. I also learned today that the factory oil you shouldn't change until 15% because it's "engine break-in oil".

Changed my engine oil and filter today in preparation for a long road trip. Found that you need a long neck funnel to facilitate oil refill with a 5 quart jug. Fortunately, I had one... an 18" (see photo). A 12" funnel may be the minimum that works.

Second oil change completed, since returning from a cross-country road trip.

Oil change "like a pro" with a deflector (P/N VSB02C000049 "RED") to avoid spilling oil on the frame when removing the filter. Application of this deflector is for the Passport, Pilot, Ridgeline.

The deflector should be oriented with the narrow end facing the right side of the vehicle, under the oil filter. The wide end of the deflector should be behind the oil filter. First, slightly loosen the oil filter. The deflector has to be maneuvered into position by sliding it into the gap behind the oil filter. Once in position, the deflector works nicely to redirect the oil.

I've always done my own oil changes and I'm not about to stop now that I have a Passport. There are just too many things that can be done wrong by people who don't care as much as I do about my vehicle.

I'm still at 60% oil life but when I do my first oil change I'll be installing one of these in place of the drain plug to make things easier for next time.

I've always done my own oil changes and I'm not about to stop now that I have a Passport. There are just too many things that can be done wrong by people who don't care as much as I do about my vehicle.

I'm still at 60% oil life but when I do my first oil change I'll be installing one of these in place of the drain plug to make things easier for next time.
We just got our passport a couple of weeks ago and I'm already looking into getting this. So the F106SX will fit it? I see it also fits the 2016 Pilot.

This is also the size I had on my 2013 Accord. Apparently all or most of the drain plugs on Honda vehicles are the same size.

Just did my first oil change at 5000 miles and Main. Minder at 30%. Getting to filter was the worst part and what a mess. I'm ordering the deflector and hope it helps on the next change. I was surprised that I couldn't use a socket wrench with the filter socket (no space). Thankfully I was able to use open end wrench with it. I usually hand tighten my filters and there's no way your going to get a torque wrench in there.
