Yesterday I went to the dealership for a oil change. I was waiting in the lounge and decided to go down to the car floor to check out the prices. They have raised the price on all their vehicles. The passport elite was raised by 15 hundred dollars at 47,999.00 I paid 43 thousand for mine 4 months ago. All their hybrid cars were also raised. I guess with the shortest of chips their taking advantage of it. They also sent a letter to my brother who owns a 2010 pilot offering him 10 thousand for it. I guess the prices of used cars have jumped as well.

I saw the same this am after dropping it off for the fuel pump. Thought it was just Californistan raising prices that much. They also has maybe 15 new vehicles for sale on the entire lot that usually has maybe 125 vehicles for sale? Zero used.

Do you think the dealers are paying more for the vehicles from the manufacturers and just passing it through to their customers? (n) Or.....Are the dealers just taking advantage of the customer and gouging them as much as the customer will tolerate?(y)
They are absolutely paying more for fuel, parts, dock fees, labor and everything else just like we do when we simply go to the grocery store. All those mandated minimum wage increases come from somewhere!

What you speak of is part of the cost of doing business. That doesn't justify big mark-ups over MSRP
Are the dealerships paying more for 2021 models from the manufacturer today than they were prior to the chip shortage?

I get that cost of doing business increase. But yes, with everything costing them more, they have to increase MSRP and pass along costs.

You defend like your affliated in some way with a dealership. The retail car industry already has such a poor, poor reputation. Ballooning up the sticker price is only going to make them look even more conniving.

I despise dealerships. Only go to them to buy a new vehicle or have them fix significant recalls.
I’m dealing with them today 6.5 hours later for a 1.5 hour fix.

But if you don’t understand where I’m coming from with the increased MSRP, nevermind.

I hear you. I understand you. I just don't agree with your explanation. Good luck on your fix.

As I noted in another thread yesterday, I was @SunsetHonda in San Luis Obispo, CA getting an oil change so I looked at the few 2021 PP EX-L's that they had on the lot (to my surprise) and all of them were base models (no AWD) with window stickers of $39.4k (rounded up).

We paid $38,887 for an excellent condition, certified used model (see my header) in 05/2021 that only had 3,387 old lady miles on it. Pricing is now at ludicrous levels for new and used vehicles. Glad I'm not in the market.

Still wish the 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro4x were in stock sooner so we didn't have to go to this plan B. Not taking away from this PP but it is sort of a letdown when it isn't your 1st choice (it was my wife's 1st choice though). Patiently waiting for the DW to get her fill of the PP and then I'm selling it to get a low mileage USED NFP4X. FTR, she's fully on board with this plan.

Fair warning that we don't need this routine again in another thread. Most everyone is or at least probably should be aware of what has been going on in the auto business, that has been the continuing norm for at least 3-4 months now. Prices are inflated on MANY things in our economy during this time period, not just vehicles, and we can recognize this without casting aspersions on others.

My local dealership has two Civic Type R's on the showroom floor. Both have a 10k "market adjusted value" added to the MSRP. Yes, they are asking -- and getting -- 10k over the MSRP for this specific car.

Yep, dealers hold the cards now. If the build to order model takes hold that may be the way to go as car companies make their extra profit by not incentivizing and the consumer gets exactly what they want. I don't think dealers are paying more for their inventory so it's pure profit for them too but when you have 5 cars on the lot how much profit is there? I don't think you need all those sales folks, huge parking lots and beautiful dealership buildings with all that overhead to sell so few cars. Whatever this morphs into my guess is consumers are going to end up paying more because incentives will be gone and there is less room to negotiate.

One reason I am so glad that my dealer has a huge lot with a large service center on the opposite side of town from their second service center that is just a couple of miles away. The service center on my side of town is just that, no sales lot, so I don't have to worry about sticker shock with new or used vehicles these days.

Has anyone noticed the cost of food? You pay it here you pay it there.
True, so true, but here in a slightly different way. After Covid the local butcher at the Mega Mart was selling either T-bone steaks, NY Strip steaks, KC Strip Steaks or Ribeye for $6.99 a pound. Always USDA Choice beef. Each week it was a different cut at that price. This went on for 9 or 10 months if not longer.

Their pre covid prices for the same cuts were in the $14-$17 a pound range. We stocked up as we have a vacuum sealer and extra freezer space.

This last week the NY Strip steaks were on sale for $9.99 a pound,

Hopefully Oregon will have better dealerships than what CA apparently does.

One can hope. But I’ve been to shitty ones in AZ, NV, NoCal and HB!

Yesterday, they spilled fuel in the backseat area from the replacement filter, wiped their grimy hands all over the backseat, inside and outside of the door handles, gave it back to me needing a system update. I just spent about 4 hours washing the outside, cleaning the inside with simple green and parked it in my garage with the windows down again.
